Buckshot Breaks Silence After Assault in Flatbush

Renowned rapper Kenyatta Blake, widely recognized by his stage name Buckshot, has publicly addressed the recent violent incident that led to his hospitalization. In a statement released to All Hip Hop on November 5, 2024, Buckshot confirmed that he was attacked by what he described as “unauthorized occupants”at one of his properties located in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn.

Buckshot, a founding member of the pivotal hip-hop groups Black Moon and Boot Camp Clik, took the opportunity to express gratitude towards his fans and supporters. He conveyed his dismay about the violence occurring in his beloved hometown, stating:

“As someone who has been an entertainer and part of this community for over 30 years, I am deeply disturbed that such an incident could happen in New York—a city I love and call home. Violence like this has no place here, and I’m calling on everyone to come together to make New York safer and better for all of us.”

Graphic footage of the rapper surfaced online last week, depicting him on the ground in his Brooklyn neighborhood, visibly injured and pleading for medical assistance. The video showcased a scene where Buckshot was left beaten and bloodied before being transported to a hospital.

Buckshot to Pursue Legal Action Following Assault

In further comments to All Hip Hop, Buckshot explained that the attack was a continuation of “ongoing disputes over (his) property.”He claimed an armed group assaulted him, stating that they were equipped with weapons, including handguns. The rapper reiterated that he is the legitimate owner of the disputed property and has been contending with individuals attempting to unlawfully occupy it.

Reassuring his followers, Buckshot confirmed that he is on the mend, declaring:

“I am currently recovering from my injuries and am working closely with my legal team and law enforcement to ensure this matter is handled properly.”

He reiterated his appreciation for the supportive messages received and emphasized the importance of ending violence:

“We are committed to seeing justice served, and I ask for your patience and support as the legal process unfolds. Again, thank you for all the well wishes. Let’s put an end to violence and help rebuild a stronger, safer New York.”

In a subsequent statement, Duck Down Music—the record label co-founded by Buckshot and Drew “Dru-Ha”Friedman—provided an update via social media. They noted that the assault took place on October 28 and confirmed that Buckshot has been discharged from the hospital, assuring fans that he is “doing OK and recovering.”

The statement also urged followers to assist in stopping the circulation of the distressing video by filing “takedown notices”on various social media platforms.

A Look at Buckshot’s Contributions to Hip-Hop

Buckshot, a Brooklyn native, is celebrated for his role in pioneering influential hip-hop acts such as Black Moon and Boot Camp Clik. Black Moon shot to fame in 1992 with their acclaimed single “Who Got Da Props,”which later appeared on their debut album Enta da Stage. Both the single and the album received widespread critical acclaim, solidifying their status within the hip-hop community.

In 1994, Buckshot joined forces with Drew “Dru-Ha”Friedman to establish Duck Down Management, now known as Duck Down Music, Inc. Three years later, the two collaborated with artists including Smif-N-Wessun and Heltah Skeltah to form the supergroup Boot Camp Clik.
