Vince McMahon Addresses Misinterpretations in Upcoming Docuseries and Allegations
Just before the release of the highly anticipated Mr. McMahon documentary on Netflix, WWE founder Vince McMahon issued a statement via his social media accounts criticizing the film. In his detailed response, McMahon argued that the documentary misrepresents his character and concludes that he is essentially the same as his on-screen persona, “Mr. McMahon.”
In addition to this, Vince McMahon accused the documentary creators of utilizing editing techniques designed to confuse viewers and promote a misleading narrative. McMahon also addressed the ongoing lawsuit filed against him by Janel Grant, who has accused him of sexually assaulting her.
Vince McMahon stated via X,
“A lot has been misrepresented or left out entirely in an effort to leave viewers intentionally confused. The producers use typical editing tricks with out of context footage and dated soundbites etc. to distort the viewers’ perception and support a deceptive narrative. In an attempt to further their misleading account, the producers use a lawsuit based on an affair I ended as evidence that I am, in fact, ‘Mr. McMahon.’ I hope the viewer will keep an open mind and remember that there are two sides to every story.”
In response to McMahon’s statement, Janel Grant’s attorney, Ann Callis, released a statement through her PR representative, Kendra Barkoff Lamy, strongly criticizing the WWE founder. Callis labeled McMahon as “delusional”and expressed hope that the documentary would illuminate the alleged criminal activities he has committed.
“Vince McMahon physically and emotionally abused, sexually assaulted and human trafficked Janel Grant for more than two years. Calling his horrific and criminal behavior ‘an affair’ is delusional and nothing more than a sad attempt to save his shredded reputation.”
The Mr. McMahon documentary is set to premiere on Netflix on September 25, 2024.
Why was Vince McMahon sued by Janel Grant?
In January 2024, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon, accusing him of sexual assault and trafficking her between 2020 and 2021. Alongside McMahon, Grant also implicated WWE executive John Laurinaitis, as well as an unnamed UFC fighter, with many speculating this to be Brock Lesnar.
In her allegations, Grant claimed that Vince McMahon subjected her to degrading treatment and offered her approximately $3 million in hush money, but subsequently ceased payments after giving her $1 million. Following the lawsuit revelation, McMahon resigned from his positions within WWE and TKO, denying all allegations against him in a statement.
McMahon asserted that he stepped down out of respect for the WWE universe. The claims made by Grant also prompted an investigation into McMahon’s conduct. This incident is not the first time Vince McMahon has faced controversy, as he has been accused of sexual misconduct multiple times in the past.
