After an 11-day manhunt, law enforcement successfully located the couple. In a dramatic turn of events, their Cadillac crashed into a ditch while trying to evade capture. According to Time, Vicky White succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound following the crash.

Vicky had announced her retirement for the same day, and investigations revealed she had been planning Casey’s escape for an extended period.

Colleagues of Vicky and inmates from Lauderdale County provided insights in the documentary, affirming their romantic relationship and disclosing that the operation on April 29, 2022, was a well-planned endeavor by Vicky. She hastily sold her home, purchased firearms and camping gear, and accumulated a substantial amount of cash prior to the escape. Furthermore, a connection to the Cadillac linked to the case was also established.

Jailbreak: Love on the Run vividly depicts the police procedures involved in tracking down Vicky and Casey. Before their escape, Vicky acquired an orange Ford, which the police found in a tow yard a week later. Using CCTV footage, authorities traced their car to Evansville.

After a lengthy manhunt, Vicky and Casey were located at a nearby motel. As they realized they were being surveilled, they attempted to flee from law enforcement, leading to a high-speed chase that culminated in their Cadillac crashing into a ditch.

With the airbags deployed and their routes blocked, Vicky tragically chose to shoot herself. Following this, Casey surrendered to the authorities. As reported by The New York Times on September 25, 2024, Casey pleaded with police to “please check on my wife” immediately after the incident, despite the couple’s lack of official marital status.

Former inmate Tyler Purser recalls in the documentary:

“She treated everybody like they were somebody. She was like [the] mother … that everybody in there never had growing up.”

Despite Vicky’s commendable reputation, suspicions arose that Casey may have manipulated her into aiding his escape. However, CCTV footage confirmed that Vicky acted willingly. Additionally, her colleagues noted that she had been contemplating the escape prior to her retirement.
