Verizon Identifies Software Issue Causing Service Outages Nationwide; Customers Experiencing SOS Mode on Some Devices

Numerous reports have surfaced from Verizon users unable to make calls or send texts, indicating that the issue lies with the carrier rather than with individual devices. Verizon has acknowledged a service outage and stated that restoration efforts are currently underway. According to the telecom giant, a software malfunction is to blame for the disruption, a situation that may raise concerns about the reliability of their service during such glitches.

Over 23, 000 Customers Affected by Verizon Outage This Saturday

As reported by Down Detector, more than 23, 000 users have reported issues with their Verizon service, peaking around 12:38 AM. Notably, approximately 60% of these reports originated from mobile devices, while the remaining 40% indicated a complete lack of signal.

Many affected customers found their devices displaying an SOS signal or experienced significant delays in service restoration. User feedback has been largely negative, with complaints surfacing on platforms like X. Some users criticized Verizon for inadequate communication regarding the software update, while others have called for compensation due to the outage’s duration.

“Thank you for reaching out. We are aware of a software issue impacting wireless service for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue. Please visit our Check Network Status page for updates on service in your area. We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your patience.”

This isn’t the first instance of service disruption for Verizon subscribers. Historical data shows that a similar incident occurred in October 2024, where The Independent reported a staggering 100, 000 outage reports. Thankfully, Verizon has been diligent in keeping its customers informed, with updates indicating that service restoration is gradually taking place in various regions, as noted in a recent post on X.
