Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: A Rollercoaster Journey on Steam Deck
The highly anticipated port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Sony’s PlayStation exclusives to PC officially launched on January 30, 2025. Despite its popular reception, Valve initially refrained from awarding it the coveted ‘Steam Deck Verified’ status at release.
On February 20, however, following the deployment of the game’s third patch, Valve updated its compatibility rating to ‘Deck Verified.’ Developers Insomniac Games and Nixxes Software celebrated this milestone, inviting players to enjoy dual Spider-Man gameplay and delve into a vast, enhanced rendition of Marvel’s New York on their handheld devices. They stated:
“We’re happy to share that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Steam Deck Verified! Experience two playable Spider-Men, traverse an expanded Marvel’s New York and battle iconic Marvel Super Villains on your handheld device now.”

However, just over a month later, Valve changed its stance, downgrading the game’s status to ‘Playable’ following numerous user reports. The new rating indicates that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 requires manual adjustment of graphic settings for optimal performance on the Steam Deck. Users are now faced with the need to tinker with settings to achieve satisfactory gameplay.
The reasoning behind this rating adjustment remains unclear, but the community’s reception has generally leaned towards approval. Many players echoed sentiments that the original ‘Verified’ classification may have been premature, citing frequent crashes and frame rates dipping below 30 FPS during gameplay on the Steam Deck.
As for the future, fans are eagerly awaiting whether ongoing updates can restore Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to its previously verified status.
Upcoming PlayStation PC Ports
In addition to the Spider-Man saga, Sony fans can look forward to another title heading to PC soon. The Last of Us Part II Remastered is set to launch on April 3, with collaborative efforts from Naughty Dog, Nixxes Software, and Iron Galaxy. As of now, the game lacks any Steam Deck compatibility badges, leaving the community speculating whether official support for the handheld console is forthcoming.
