Despite a robust update schedule throughout 2024, the challenges brought on by the current game environment have prompted Valve to rethink its update strategy. This decision may disappoint fans eager for continuous changes; however, it promises that future updates will be more substantial in nature.
Since its unexpected launch on Steam in early 2024 amidst gameplay leaks, Deadlock, a free-to-play MOBA, has secured a notable position in the highly competitive hero-shooter landscape. Competing against titans like Marvel Rivals, Deadlock stands out thanks to Valve’s signature polish and its appealing steampunk aesthetic. While significant transformations have marked the game’s first year, Valve is opting for a more measured approach to updates moving forward.
According to PCGamesN, Valve has confirmed a less frequent update schedule for Deadlock in 2025. Developer Yoshi explained, “As we start 2025 we are going to be adjusting our update schedule to help improve our development process.”He emphasized that while the previous two-week update cycle was beneficial initially, it has become increasingly challenging for their team to implement meaningful changes and allow sufficient time for those changes to resonate with players.
Valve’s Update Strategy for Deadlock Adjusts
The recent winter update offered a refreshing break from the routine balance adjustments players experienced throughout 2024. As Valve adapts its update model—shifting away from a rigid schedule—players can expect future updates to feel more like events packed with enhancements, rather than smaller fixes. Yoshi shared, “These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year.”

For those wishing to experiment further, an additional eight heroes are available in the Hero Labs mode.
