Compatibility Issues Arise for Ubisoft Titles with Windows 11 24H2 Update
The recent rollout of Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 update has not come without its challenges, particularly for various titles developed by Ubisoft. Affected games range from the recently launched Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora to the older classic, Assassin’s Creed Origins from 2017. In response to the mounting compatibility issues, Microsoft acknowledged the situation in November, subsequently blocking the update on systems where these Ubisoft games are installed.
Hotfixes Introduced for Major Titles
While Ubisoft quickly rolled out hotfixes for Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora to mitigate some of the significant compatibility issues with the Windows 11 24H2 update, three titles in the Assassin’s Creed series—Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla—continued to experience stability problems. As a result, these games retained their update blockers from Microsoft. Fortunately, recent updates promise relief for two of these titles.
New Updates for Valhalla and Origins
Players of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla can now download the latest patch, version 1.7.0, which is a 500MB update aimed at resolving the compatibility issues. Similarly, Assassin’s Creed Origins has also received an update, with the 1.62 patch weighing in at 230MB. Both updates are live on Steam and are expected to be available across various PC platforms as well.
Odyssey Yet to Receive an Update
Interestingly, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey remains absent from this round of updates. Despite being part of the same series, recent Steam user reviews suggest that Odyssey players are encountering fewer compatibility issues on Windows 11 24H2 compared to the other titles. This raises the possibility that an update for Odyssey may be forthcoming, albeit delayed.
Microsoft’s Ongoing Support
At present, the Windows Health dashboard indicates that Valhalla, Origins, and Odyssey still face potential operational issues, stating that “these games might become unresponsive while starting, loading, or during active gameplay.”However, if the recent updates from Ubisoft prove effective, we may soon see these games regain full compatibility with the 24H2 update.
