NVIDIA’s latest line of GeForce RTX 50 laptops is facing a delay in production. This precautionary approach comes as suppliers are being more meticulous to prevent a repeat of previous issues, particularly the “missing ROP”malfunction that has marred past GPU launches.
NVIDIA’s Cautious Approach: Ensuring Quality for RTX 50 Laptops
Update [3/7/25] – NVIDIA has reached out to The Verge, clarifying that their GeForce RTX 50 laptop GPUs are not impacted by the missing ROP problem. This confirmation suggests that earlier reports indicating potential delays or recalls were unfounded.
Did we just transition from “no other GPUs are affected” to ‘”some laptop GPUs” are also affected?
The answer was “Nope.”
Just to triple-check, the “nope” means that no laptop GPUs are affected by the missing ROP issue, yes?
“Correct, no further issues, ” Berraondo says.
The current performance and supply chain situation of Team Green’s consumer GPUs are not resonating with expectations. Specifically, the “missing ROP”incident has resulted in performance declines of nearly 11% in some cases. According to a recent report by the German outlet Heise, the missing ROP issue has indeed affected NVIDIA’s RTX 50 laptop GPUs, which are now undergoing enhanced scrutiny.
The source elaborated that discussions with multiple manufacturers revealed an anticipated delay in the retail debut of NVIDIA’s RTX 50 laptops. To ensure product integrity, Team Green has advised manufacturers to reinforce their quality assurance (QA) measures. This elevated testing process requires additional resources and time, ultimately impacting the planned retail launch timeline.

On a related note, it has been reported that manufacturers have recently received the final vBIOS for the laptop GPUs, allowing mass production to commence in early March. Consequently, these devices are expected to hit retail shelves anywhere from April to May, depending on regional availability. NVIDIA initiated pre-orders for RTX 50 laptop GPUs at the end of February, with initial customer deliveries anticipated in March—meaning a projected one-month delay in delivery.
While the delay may not be well-received, NVIDIA’s cautious stance aims to prevent a repeat of past launch issues, particularly the troubled desktop GPU rollout. However, from the consumer’s viewpoint, such hiccups from a reputable company like NVIDIA could undermine trust and satisfaction over time.
