Kadokawa’s Q2 Fiscal Results Highlight Performance of Elden Ring Nightreign
Kadokawa, the parent company of FromSoftware, recently disclosed its earnings for the second quarter of the 2025 fiscal year. A focal point of the report was the performance of Elden Ring Nightreign, along with insights into future developments for this engaging spin-off title.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s Initial Success
Since its launch in May 2025, Elden Ring Nightreign has emerged as one of the standout titles of the year. FromSoftware announced a remarkable milestone, confirming that the game sold over 5 million copies shortly after its release. This figure is particularly notable for a multiplayer spin-off, especially considering the strong preference among FromSoftware fans for single-player experiences.
Sales Performance Amid Competitive Landscape
Kadokawa has officially stated that Elden Ring Nightreign exceeded the company’s initial sales expectations. However, despite this success, overall sales within its gaming division saw a decline compared to the previous year. This downturn was attributed to the supernatural performance of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, which had a significant impact on last year’s sales figures.
“In Gaming, sales decreased despite the domestic and international strong performance of Elden Ring Nightreign, compared to the previous year, which benefited significantly from the contributions of the Elden Ring DLC, ”writes Kadokawa.
Future Developments for Elden Ring Nightreign
Looking ahead, Kadokawa indicated promising news regarding additional content. In the ‘Future Outlook’ section of their presentation, the company confirmed that FromSoftware is actively developing Elden Ring Nightreign DLC, scheduled for release in fiscal year 2025.
Since the game’s May debut, players have received updates that introduced new features, including a Duos mode and more challenging boss encounters, as well as a new difficulty tier. Despite these enhancements, many players feel that the pace of post-launch support has been lacking.
Player Feedback Highlights Concerns
Frustration over such issues has led some players to express their dissatisfaction on Steam. One notable review, from a dedicated player with over 166 hours logged, conveyed disappointment regarding the lack of updates:
“I am a long-time FromSoftware fan and I genuinely love Elden Ring Nightreign, but the state of this game is a joke… For a game of this scale, that is embarrassing.”
Concerns about the game’s long-term support also resonate in statements like, “The game feels abandoned and the players who supported it from day one are being ignored.” Such sentiments underline the importance of maintaining player engagement post-launch.
Anticipation for New Content
Kadokawa has hinted that the new DLC could be released before the end of fiscal year 2025, potentially pushing the timeline to March 2026. This could leave many players feeling disengaged if the content arrives too late. However, should the DLC launch sooner, possibly aligned with upcoming events like Sony’s State of Play Japan, it may revitalize interest in Nightreign.
As anticipation builds for the DLC, the gaming community remains hopeful that FromSoftware will respond positively to feedback and deliver compelling updates that enhance the Nightreign experience.
