Microsoft has made an exciting announcement regarding the availability of several Call of Duty titles, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Call of Duty Warzone, and the highly anticipated Call of Duty Black Ops 6, which will become playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming starting October 25.
According to Microsoft’s post on the Xbox Wire website, the announcement highlights:
For the first time, players will have access to a variety of Call of Duty titles via Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to experience Call of Duty games like never before—across consoles, PCs, mobile devices, select Samsung TVs, Amazon Fire TVs, and Meta Quest devices. This provides additional opportunities to engage with Black Ops 6 right from its launch day.
While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Warzone were previously available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, they did not support access through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Additionally, Microsoft had indicated earlier that Black Ops 6 would join Xbox Game Pass upon its Day One release. Notably, this title will also be available on the Nvidia GeForce NOW cloud service starting the same day.
In 2023, during the restructuring of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, it was announced that Microsoft would be transferring cloud gaming rights for all existing and future Activision Blizzard PC games to Ubisoft for a 15-year period. However, Ubisoft was also granted the authority to license these cloud gaming rights back to Microsoft outside Europe for Xbox Cloud Gaming. Interestingly, today’s announcement regarding the Call of Duty titles did not reference the earlier Microsoft-Ubisoft cloud gaming agreement.
This news arrives amidst unverified claims suggesting that Microsoft is set to enhance Xbox Cloud Gaming, potentially providing gamers with cloud-based access to virtually all their owned titles, including those not listed within the Xbox Game Pass catalog.
