Exciting AI Innovations Expected at Apple’s WWDC 2025
As Apple gears up for its much-anticipated WWDC event set to commence on June 9, a comprehensive analysis by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has provided insights into potential announcements that focus heavily on artificial intelligence (AI).
A Systemwide Push for Translation
One of the standout features expected to be unveiled is the revamped Translate app. According to Gurman’s findings, Apple plans to implement a comprehensive “systemwide push into translation”within iOS 26, enhancing the Translate app with advanced AI capabilities. This integration aims to optimize user experience by making translation seamless throughout the operating system.
Live Translation Capabilities
The enhancements to the Translate app will not only support text and voice translations but will also prioritize real-time translation of phone calls and text messages. Additionally, Apple is reportedly developing features that facilitate live translation for AirPods users, significantly broadening the app’s functionality.
Access to Foundation Models for Developers
Apple is set to showcase multiple AI initiatives, including allowing third-party developers access to its Foundation Models, which underpin various Apple Intelligence features. These models are designed to support generative AI applications, such as text summarization and innovative tools like Genmoji.
The Creative Potential of Genmoji
The Genmoji feature in iOS 26 will empower users to create customized emoji by merging existing ones, enriching the way they express themselves. Furthermore, AI enhancements in the Shortcuts app will enable users to craft quick actions more intuitively and efficiently.
Enhanced Foundation Models and Developer Support
Apple appears poised to introduce a new iteration of Foundation Models suitable for both on-device and cloud usage. While developers may initially gain access to the on-device version, news suggests that a forthcoming update to Xcode will also permit integration with third-party large language models (LLMs), currently being tested with Claude models.
Future Release Timeline for Calendar and Health Apps
Gurman also notes that the much-anticipated Calendar app overhaul will not debut this year, but is slated for iOS 27 and macOS 27. Delays have also affected the release of Apple’s AI-driven Health app, which is now expected to launch by the end of next year.
AI-Based Battery Optimization and Collaborations
In all things power management, Apple’s AI-enhanced battery optimization feature is rumored to be included with the upcoming iPhone 17 Air. Additionally, discussions between Apple and Google regarding incorporating Gemini as a potential alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT are in progress, although no announcement is anticipated at this year’s WWDC. Both companies are awaiting a conclusive decision on Google’s search agreement with Apple.
