Death Stranding 2: On the Beach marks a significant evolution in Hideo Kojima’s gaming oeuvre. This highly anticipated sequel not only expands on the narrative depth of the original title but also incorporates a variety of innovative features. Among these additions, the introduction of an in-game music player stands out, providing players with an enriching auditory experience that enhances gameplay.
As a veteran player with over a hundred hours invested in the original release, I approached this sequel with minimal expectations. The moment I stumbled upon the music player was exhilarating. For many within the community, the ability to savor the game’s stunning soundtrack at leisure represents a long-awaited dream. In this guide, I will walk you through the process of unlocking and utilizing the music player in Death Stranding 2.
Unlocking the Music Player

The music player becomes accessible during the 11th Major Order in Episode 2, where you will encounter the character known as the Musician. This requires patience; if you’ve just finished Episode 1 and are exploring Australia to connect it to the network, it’s a bit of a trek.
Your mission revolves around assisting Tarman by delivering a mysterious recording to the Musician. However, before you can make any headway, you will need to navigate an obstacle: disabling a communications disruptor located within a nearby Brigands’ base.

This disruptor is essential to complete your delivery as it blocks the Musician from joining the Chiral Network. Approach this task with caution—whether choosing a stealthy strategy or a direct assault, it’s crucial to disable or destroy the disruptor to proceed.
Once neutralized, you’ll gain unhindered access to the Musician located in the northern region. Complete the delivery of the Mysterious Recording to this character, known as Gen Hoshino, which will also enable you to connect this new prepper to the Chiral Network.
By the end of this mission, if you’ve managed to gather some lost cargo to assist in the delivery, you may unlock additional rewards like the MP Shotgun. Most importantly, upon completing this delivery, the music player feature will be unlocked in your Ring Terminal menu for future use.
Using the Music Player & Unlocking New Tracks

The introduction of the music player has been a highly requested feature ever since the original title. Its design mimics that of a real-life music player, complete with the ability to create three unique playlists, enhancing your gaming experience with your favorite tunes.
During tense moments or pivotal scenes, the music player automatically pauses to ensure nothing important is missed. It offers various controls, including track shuffling, song skipping, and volume adjustments, allowing players to balance immersive soundtracks with essential in-game audio cues and dialogues.

The song selection expands as players progress, especially towards the game’s conclusion. Familiar tracks from artists like Low Roar and CHVRCHES return, delighting loyal fans. Moreover, you can unlock numerous new songs by completing certain deliveries and experiencing key story moments, which will automatically add them to your playlist.
In summary, Death Stranding 2 not only captivates with its gameplay but also enriches the player experience through thoughtful features like the music player. To dive deeper into this immersive world, keep an eye out for new song unlocks as you journey through the game.
