Unlocking the Map in MIO Memories: A Guide for Orbit Players

MIO: Memories in Orbit is an engaging Metroidvania title that takes inspiration from the acclaimed game Hollow Knight. A notable mechanic is its innovative map system, requiring players to actively work towards unlocking new areas and resting periodically to refresh the map. Additionally, in MIO, the challenge of returning after defeat in boss battles adds depth to exploration, as players must retrace their steps from a teleport point to the boss location multiple times after a loss.

Given this design, prioritizing map unlocking in MIO: Memories in Orbit can significantly enhance your exploration experience as you navigate the expansive Ark. Here’s how to effectively unlock the map.

How to Unlock the Map in MIO: Memories in Orbit

MIO: How to Unlock the Map

To unlock the map in MIO: Memories in Orbit, players need to offer a specific amount of Nacre to a character named Shii. Start from the initial overseer waypoint and ascend upwards until you find Shii, who appears weakened beneath a spine contraption. When you approach Shii, he expresses his curiosity about an operational robot.

At this point, you will need to interact with Shii multiple times before you can begin providing him with Nacre. To facilitate the unlocking process, you must give Shii a significant amount of Nacre. For instance, contributing 200 Nacre will grant access to the Look Through His Eye feature, allowing you to view the map only when you are adjacent to Shii.

MIO: Nacre Offering

Continue to offer Shii more Nacre—approximately 150 additional units—until he acknowledges that it is sufficient. This will trigger a small cutscene featuring Shii coming back to life, at which point the message not connected to the spine will be replaced by a live map interface. With the map now active, you can freely explore the vessel with newfound guidance.

MIO: Connecting to Spine

It’s important to note that even with the map unlocked, exploration requires you to rest at an overseer dock to update it. Thus, actively managing your exploration and resting periods will be crucial for ongoing navigation.

Unlocking the map in MIO: Memories in Orbit simplifies the exploration process significantly. A highly effective method for acquiring Nacre involves revisiting enemy-rich regions and resting at overseer points. This approach not only replenishes Mio’s health but also respawns defeated enemies, facilitating collection of more Nacre.

Alternatively, for the adventurous, you may choose to explore without the map. It’s not a strict necessity for progress; if you manage to loop back to Shii alive, you may well have gathered enough Nacre to proceed with unlocking the map. However, be prepared for challenges, as boss fights are essential for advancing in the game.
