Upon stepping into the mystical world of Nightreign and completing the tutorial, players will find themselves initially limited to just six Nightfarers to select from. However, there are two additional characters available for unlocking, starting with the Duchess. Once you have acquired the Duchess, the intriguing Revenant will also become available for selection.
The Revenant stands out as a truly distinctive Nightfarer, primarily excelling in Faith attributes. This character brings a diverse array of summons to battle, establishing her as a strategic support role. When equipped effectively with Incantations and Faith weapons, the Revenant can unleash impressive damage, making her not just a supporting character but also a formidable powerhouse. If this style of gameplay piques your interest, follow along to learn how to unlock the Revenant in Nightreign.
Unlocking the Revenant in Nightreign
To initiate the unlocking process, you must first conquer the initial Nightlord and obtain the Old Pocketwatch item as a potential random reward. After securing your victory, focus on unlocking the Duchess. Following her acquisition, a new item known as the Besmirched Flame becomes accessible for purchase at the Small Jar Bazaar.
Use your Murk to buy the Besmirched Flame. If needed, you can liquidate some Relics at the Relic Rites altar to raise the required currency. Next, turn your attention to the map, where you’ll notice an exclamation mark highlighted in the eastern wing of the Hold—make your way there.

Upon arrival, you’ll encounter a small ghost peering into the corner. Interact with this ghost and offer the Besmirched Flame. This action will transport you to the realm of Limveld, where the adventure takes an unexpected twist.

Upon entering the nearby ruins, the Revenant awaits, positioned at the back of the area. For veterans of Elden Ring, the ensuing challenge will feel familiar.
As you close in on the Revenant, a boss encounter initiates against her and her summoned allies, known collectively as the Night Idol. While the Night Idol herself poses a moderate challenge, her summons can be problematic if not addressed promptly. Your approach can be either aggressive, overwhelming the Night Idol swiftly with the Raider, or strategic, prioritizing the elimination of her summons before turning your focus back on her.
Be particularly cautious of her Rings of Light spells and her slow-moving skeleton summon. While it may appear non-threatening, this summon can deal significant damage unexpectedly with its Black Flame attacks, catching you off guard if you’re not vigilant.
Should you fall in battle, you’ll respawn in the Hold and can attempt the fight with the ghost repeatedly until the Night Idol is vanquished.
Defeating the Night Idol will successfully unlock the Revenant as a playable Nightfarer, allowing you to embark on her initial Remembrance quest. Your first task will be to obtain a weapon part from the first Nightlord, Gladius (or another Nightlord, which I won’t spoil).
