The OFF Remaster has preserved most of the features from the original 2008 RPG, but it introduces several exciting elements in the 2025 edition. New unique bosses, accompanied by fresh music and visuals, enhance the gameplay with additional story arcs that are exclusive to this remaster.
If you’re considering challenging these newly introduced bosses, be aware that they are quite formidable. They possess significant health pools and deal considerable damage, making it advisable to confront them only after clearing the third area. Although you can technically engage them right after discovering their locations, it may lead to an uneven fight if you’re not adequately prepared.
These bosses are meticulously designed to exploit the combat mechanics unique to the remaster, compelling players to leverage their game knowledge and think critically about their strategies to achieve victory.
In this guide, I will provide insights into navigating the purified zones to encounter these bosses. You’ll receive strategic tips and a comprehensive overview of each boss’s mechanics, but ultimately, you’ll earn the satisfaction of defeating them on your own.
Source
Purified Zone 1
Begin at the starting location and make your way upward, then to the right along the tracks until you reach Damien’s remnants. Enter the mines, which may appear sparse, but you’ll find your way through them to the barns.
Access the usual entrance blocked by rocks; by pushing one rock right and another up, you’ll navigate into a more spacious area where you can collect the chests above.
In this new room, move left by pushing the rock located at the entrance, then proceed up, left, and again up. After encountering a save point, you’ll face another rock puzzle. Solve it by moving in this order: right, up, left, right, up, and right again.
Next, push the two rocks flanking the door inward and slide the rock in front of the door aside. This opens access to a ladder-filled room, where you’ll meet the boss that will engage you through an eye.

This boss is relatively easy to defeat, embodying a theme of avoiding conflict and questioning the motivation behind battles. Most strategies you’ve employed thus far will likely succeed without significant trouble.
However, be aware that Source can endure a lot of damage. Thus, it’s suggested to level your team sufficiently before attempting this encounter. Once you’re ready, unleash your full offensive capabilities without holding back.
Curse
Purified Zone 2
Getting to this boss is straightforward. Start at Purified Zone 2, move up, left, and then down to the western edge of the island, leading you to the amusement park.
You’ll notice the park’s sparse environment compared to previous visits. At the top, another moving eye awaits, allowing you to engage with a quirky crab and initiate the fight.
Maldicion introduces a gimmick familiar to those who’ve played other titles with an enemy-type system. It generates a shield, declaring one of the elements: Meat, Metal, Smoke, or Plastic.
While you can break these shields with raw power, it’s significantly easier if you counter each type accordingly: Metal defeats Smoke, Smoke beats Plastic, Plastic trumps Meat, and Meat conquers Metal.
The optimal counters can be managed by utilizing The Batter’s competences and paying attention to the initial word in the description of the “Run With”skills. Additionally, if you’ve gathered Inspirations and Expirations during your gameplay, you can use them strategically to deal either Plastic or Meat damage with any add-ons you possess.
Psalmanazer and Herodotus
Purified Zone 3
To reach this challenging duo, you’ll need to traverse quite a distance. Navigate through Purified Zone 3’s first area and enter the top-left door in the expansive room to find a new passageway leading to the second area.
Continue upwards into a once-bustling room filled with switch puzzles, now desolate. You’ll discover a door in the previously busy sugar room. Proceed through it to find yourself in the third area.
Head all the way up and to the right, then instead of proceeding to the next area, find the stairs leading up to the large metal pipes, and climb inside one to fall back to familiar territory without engaging in a mini-game this time.
In the sugar factory, you’ll notice that the remnants of past battles are gone, and the furnace is unlit. Venture into the furnace, utilize the nearby save block, then descend the ladder to encounter another moving eye.
Psalmanazer and Herodotus are considered some of the toughest opponents in the game. Their primary mechanic revolves around inflicting the “Vilified”status, which can incapacitate your team significantly.
While under this status, any damage you inflict accumulates and is dealt back to your entire party once the status expires, preventing the use of competences during its effect.
To handle this scenario, it’s prudent to either defend, use items, or cancel your turns to conserve them while afflicted. If your health is robust enough, you might consider attacking, but caution is advised.
As the school of fish comes to protect the larger fish, focus your efforts on eliminating individual threats to manage the fight effectively. With persistence, you can secure your victory.
Just
The Room
By the time you approach Justus, you’ll likely be near the final save point in The Room. Finding Justus is straightforward; it resides in a staircase that appears after defeating the other three secret bosses.
The encounter itself leans more towards lore than a tough challenge. You should be strong enough to withstand its attacks and deal consistent damage to secure a win. Justus communicates similarly to The Batter and possesses abilities derived from your entire party, though those abilities lack potency.
Stick to your usual tactics—attack, utilize items for CC recovery, heal as necessary, and unleash your strongest abilities. While a bit anticlimactic, this remains the approach you should adopt.
Carnival
The Nothingness
Finding Carnival is relatively simple. Return to the Nothingness via the saved point, and look for a curious portal in the top-left corner. Walk through it, approach the eye, and initiate the fight with Carnival.
This encounter presents a noticeable increase in difficulty compared to previous battles. Carnival frequently cycles through star signs, signaling which attacks are forthcoming; although damage amounts remain consistent and can usually be countered effectively.
The challenging aspect arises from Carnival’s unique mechanic: whenever damage occurs, either the attacker or Carnival receives a prize, which significantly accelerates their attack timer, allowing for quicker hits.
The randomness of this mechanic makes it essential to be strategic, as avoiding attacks entirely isn’t feasible. Prepare for a drawn-out battle; stock up on consumables to bolster your chances before entering the encounter.
Cob
Red Room
For the ultimate challenge in the game, you’ll need to confront The Queen after the final save point to gain access to Cob. After this fight, you will find yourself in a red room, where you can navigate left and down a staircase.
Inside this maze of rooms and stairs, you’ll discover the final eye, leading you to Cob. This character harbors resentment for your actions and possesses a formidable capacity to obliterate unprepared players.
At first, Cob doesn’t display significant aggression, but soon it will lock onto a member of your party, inflict damage, heal itself, and then unleash Ionosphere—a practically instant death sentence—causing over 4000 damage with one attack.
Adding to the difficulty, you’ll experience a more severe version of the Vilified status. This iteration blocks your competences and item usage, reducing your damage output to almost nothing aside from a single attack turn.
To successfully navigate this encounter, facilitate proper preparation. If you haven’t obtained the Aries card, opt for the Ashley Bat or another high-damage weapon. You can largely ignore defense, as you’ll likely face repeated defeats.
Gather Jokers, stockpile Golden Flesh items, and prepare ample healing supplies. Upon entering the fight, utilize your initial critical turn on an Eye or analyze Cob with The Batter to reveal its health bar.
Expect an arduous battle. During your debuffed turns, take a defensive stance to recover CC, attacking as desired. Crucially, before the Ionosphere strikes, cancel your turns with all party members.
This strategy enables three to four swift turns in succession after the status clears, allowing the deployment of your most powerful competences and hopefully outsizing Cob’s healing capacity.
Throughout the encounter, make sure to apply Alpha to consistently apply Lethargic to Cob, as this status is remarkably effective in countering its high attack speed. Additionally, utilize Epsilon to empower The Batter, as it is essential for applying significant damage during the debuff periods.
If you find yourself overwhelmed or incapable of matching Cob’s healing output, consider returning to Zone 3 to grind for experience, gather additional items, and return better equipped for victory.
