Unlocking Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World: A Step-by-Step Guide

The much-anticipated latest entry in the Mario Kart franchise, Mario Kart World, has launched without a 200cc mode. However, fans of the series will be pleased to discover that a Mirror Mode is cleverly tucked away within the game, waiting to be unlocked. The challenge lies in understanding the specific criteria necessary to access this feature.

With some experimentation, it has been determined that unlocking Mirror Mode is actually quite straightforward once you are aware of the requisite tasks. Notably, Mirror Mode is not limited to racing—you can also navigate the free-roam map in this mode! So, without further delay, here’s a detailed guide on how to unlock Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World.

Unlocking Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World

To successfully unlock Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World, you need to accomplish the following objectives:

  • Complete all Grand Prix events (150cc)
  • Finish all Knockout Tours (150cc)
  • Collect at least 10 Peach Medallions
  • Discover a minimum of 10 Hidden Question (?) Panels
  • Complete at least 10 P Switch missions

After satisfying all of the above conditions, proceed to race through the Special Cup in Grand Prix mode once again.

Upon completing the Grand Prix, you will be greeted with credits followed by a short cutscene. Shortly thereafter, a notification will pop up confirming, “You have unlocked Mirror Mode!”

Once unlocked, you can select Mirror Mode for Grand Prix, Knockout Tour, or VS Races. Additionally, you are free to explore the open-world map in Mirror Mode during free-roaming sessions.

Exploring Mirror Mode in Free-Roam

To experience the free-roam map in Mirror Mode, head to the Peach Stadium track and navigate towards Peach’s Castle. At the summit of the castle, look for a stained-glass window featuring Peach—an homage to her appearance in Super Mario 64—that you can drive through.

Upon entering the area (ideally via fast travel), move forward and take the leftmost path. Keep following the road while glancing to the right, where you will spot a red-tiled roof accessible for your kart.
