What is Gohan’s Ultimate Form?
A Transformation Bestowed by the Elders

Gohan’s Ultimate Form represents a significant transformation achieved through a remarkable ritual involving the Kais. Unlike traditional Saiyan power-ups, this transformation includes an element known as kiai— a mental focus that allows Gohan to unlock this formidable state. The result is an overwhelming surge of energy that astonishes even Goku.
While Gohan’s outward appearance remains largely unchanged—his hair length and color stay consistent—he exhibits a more assured demeanor. Notably, one of his bangs falls over his forehead, and his body language reflects a fighter’s spirit, bolstering his confidence in combat.
When Does Gohan Unlock Ultimate Form?

Gohan initially accessed the Ultimate Form during the Majin Buu Saga in Dragon Ball Z. To confront a formidable adversary, with guidance from Elder Kai and others, Gohan underwent an extensive ritual that included hours of dance and meditation, culminating in a remarkable transformation.
Due to Gohan’s latent potential as a Hybrid Saiyan, he successfully completed the ritual more quickly than expected. Although he generally shied away from fighting, the Ultimate Form unlocked a new level of power that was unparalleled for him at that time. Notably, the transformation is said to rival the Super Saiyan 3 mode, equating Gohan’s strength with that of his father. This newfound ability allowed Gohan to hold his own against Majin Buu, although his overconfidence led to a critical mistake in their encounter that ultimately resulted in his absorption by the villain.

When Has Gohan Utilized This Powerful Transformation?

While Gohan’s first manifestation of the Ultimate Form occurred in Dragon Ball Z, he has employed this power multiple times in later series. His transformations often provide crucial momentum shifts during critical battles, showcasing not only the visual spectacle but also the strategic advantage it can offer against enemies.
As per the established canon, Gohan has utilized the Ultimate Form in key moments such as:
- During an encounter in Dragon Ball Super against Beerus, the God of Destruction, albeit unsuccessfully.
- In training sessions with Piccolo prior to the Tournament of Power, restoring his martial prowess.
- Sparring with Goku leading up to the Tournament of Power to test his limitations against a formidable opponent.
- In the Tournament of Power, Gohan faced off against Obni, marking a significant battle.
- Sparring with Golden Frieza to execute a strategy against Frost during the Tournament of Power.
- Joining forces with Piccolo against Saonel and Pilina in the Tournament of Power.
- Challenging fused opponents Koiceareta and Agnilasa from Universe 3 in the Tournament of Power.
- Taking on Top and Dyspo during the Tournament of Power.
- In the manga, Gohan maintains his Ultimate Form throughout the Tournament of Power.
- He also employed this form to combat Moro’s subordinates in the manga, ranking him as Earth’s third-strongest fighter, following Goku and Vegeta.
Can Others Attain Ultimate Form?
As of now, Gohan remains the sole character to have completed the Kais’ ritual to access the Ultimate Form. Notably, he currently trails Goku’s Ultra Instinct and Vegeta’s Ultra Ego in terms of battle power. Following the events of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Gohan’s Ultimate Form is no longer his most potent transformation, as he has advanced to a more powerful Beast Form seen in his fight against Cell Max.
