Unlocking Fancy Footwork in Baldur’s Gate 3: Achievement and Trophy Guide

Unlocking Fancy Footwork in Baldur’s Gate 3: Achievement and Trophy Guide

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Fancy Footwork achievement challenges players to defeat Enver Gortash in his audience hall while preventing him from activating his cunning traps. This combat scenario is heightened by the presence of Steel Watchers, making it imperative to devise an effective strategy prior to engaging in battle. Navigating Gortash’s treacherous arena can be akin to navigating a literal deathtrap, especially since the traps spring into action as soon as he turns hostile.

To successfully claim this achievement, players must approach this encounter with a carefully planned strategy. Below are some of the most effective techniques for swiftly taking down Gortash while ensuring the traps remain dormant.

Strategy 1: Destroy Traps Before Luring Gortash Out

Disable Key Traps and Steel Watchers First

The traps scattered throughout Gortash’s audience hall are a serious threat but only become active when he feels threatened. This means you can destroy these traps without worry, as long as you remain undetected. It’s not necessary to eliminate every single trap; focusing on taking out the four traps in the northern area and the two shield-buffing curtains will suffice.

In addition to this, be sure to eliminate the three Steel Watchers patrolling outside the audience hall. Engaging with the Steel Watchers does not trigger hostility from the enemies inside, allowing your party to prepare effectively. After securing the area, position your team outside the hall and surprise Gortash with a stealthy ambush.

Once Gortash is taken by surprise, make a quick exit from the audience hall, drawing him out. By the time he follows you, he should have lost his buffs and moved away from his traps, providing your party with an excellent opportunity to defeat him and unlock the achievement.

Strategy 2: Shove Gortash Off His Coronation Balcony

Utilize Spirit Guardians to Push Gortash Off the Balcony

While it’s not recommended to eliminate Gortash during his coronation ceremony, doing so can unlock the achievement. However, this comes at a cost, as it may skip important storylines. To effectively execute this strategy, reload an earlier save once you’re finished.

Post-coronation, send one of your companions skilled in Sleight of Hand into the chamber located west of the hall. Have them lockpick the door to the western balcony before switching to your cleric. Cast Spirit Guardians to guide Gortash in the direction away from your cleric, effectively luring him closer to the balcony.

After provoking Gortash into hostility, utilize your Strength-based character to thrust him off the balcony. Given the role of initiative in this tactic, ensure that your strongest contender goes before Gortash on the turn order. Remember to save your game before making any attacks. Once Gortash plummets, he will be in a prone position and can be swiftly defeated using ranged attacks or spells, thus unlocking the achievement.

Strategy 3: Use Explosives for a Dramatic Finish

Surround Gortash With Explosives for a Potential One-Shot Kill

This methodology hinges on your ability to keep Gortash non-hostile and gather ample explosives that can deal devastating damage. A plethora of explosives can be found at Felogyr’s Fireworks in the Lower City; however, care is needed to avoid igniting a fire if engaged in combat there. Consider stockpiling smokepowder barrels and fireworks at your camp for a strategic advantage.

In addition to what you collect, you may wish to purchase smokepowder bombs and acquire a runepowder bomb from Wulbren, assuming he was saved in earlier Acts.

As long as Gortash remains unsuspecting, arrange the explosives around him and then save your game. Position your party stealthily before triggering a fire spell or firing a flaming arrow at the explosives. The ensuing chain reaction of explosions should ideally eliminate Gortash in one shot or significantly lower his health, allowing your characters to finish him off quickly before the traps activate, thereby securing the Fancy Footwork achievement.
