Monster Train 2 seamlessly combines roguelike mechanics, deck-building strategy, and tower defense gameplay, creating an experience that may initially appear complex. However, players typically grasp the game’s fundamentals within just a few runs.
Introducing Dimensional Challenges
Once you feel comfortable with the core gameplay, Monster Train 2 presents the challenge of the Dimensional Portal. This feature unlocks a series of formidable custom game seeds that come with various modifiers and unique challenges meant for seasoned players.
If you’re seeking to elevate your gaming experience and unlock exclusive rewards, here’s a comprehensive guide on how to access Dimensional Challenges in Monster Train 2.
Unlock the Dimensional Portal

To gain access to the Dimensional Challenges in Monster Train 2, the first step is unlocking the Dimensional Portal. You might have noticed a progress bar at the bottom of the screen that displays: “Next Feature Unlock: 0/2 — Unlock Pyre Hearts.” This indicates your primary objective.
Fortunately, the game offers three Pyre Hearts early on that are relatively simple to obtain. The good news is you only need to unlock two of them to access the Dimensional Portal. You can choose any two that you prefer.
Heart of the Pact

Out of these three Pyres, I personally found the Heart of the Pact to be the most challenging to unlock, even though it is listed as the first option. To achieve this, you must win a total of nine battles while participating in runs with Trials enabled.

Trials are optional difficulty adjustments you can set before each battle that introduce debuffs to increase the challenge, in exchange for extra rewards like gold. As you progress, these trials become tougher. If your goal is solely to unlock the Dimensional Portal, consider beginning runs at Covenant Zero difficulty, accepting the Trials each time, and continue until you win nine of them.
While this approach may lead to several failed runs, it’s essential, as failure is part of the process for unlocking the next Pyre effortlessly.
Lifemother’s Pyre

I unlocked Lifemother’s Pyre first, and it’s relatively easy to achieve if you’re willing to sacrifice a few runs. To unlock it, your Pyre must accumulate 475 total damage across all your runs. You could even initiate and lose five or six runs consecutively to fulfill this requirement.
Wyngh’s Spirit

Wyngh’s Spirit was the second Pyre I unlocked, and its requirements are quite straightforward. You need to move your units a total of 275 times throughout your gameplay.
This may seem daunting, but you’ll naturally achieve this as you play, since many actions involve moving units. For instance, applying Valor to a character sends them to the front of the train, while using a Steadfast Crusader’s Slam ability also moves them forward. Additionally, several cards and artifacts allow for unit repositioning.
To expedite unlocking this Pyre, be proactive about moving units, even if it jeopardizes a successful run.
Understanding Dimensional Challenges

Upon unlocking two Pyres and completing a brief dialogue scene after your run, the Dimensional Portal will unlock. Once inside, you’ll encounter a branching objective tree.
Your first unlocked challenge, “Weapons Make The Warrior”, serves as a test of your skills. Generally speaking, these challenges are designed for those who find the main story quests too simplistic or wish to add a fresh twist to their experience.Prepare for tough challenges ahead!

Select a challenge to view the random starting cards and specific run details, which fluctuate with each attempt. So, if you stumble on a challenge, the next attempt may afford you better cards for a stronger arsenal.

Each challenge will feature three fixed run Mutators. Unlike random cards, these Mutators remain unchanged across specific challenges. In your initial challenge, you can expect to face the following:
- Enchanted Armory: All equipment cards cost 0 ember and add 3 random Equipment cards to your starting deck.
- Amplified Armaments: The health benefits from equipment are doubled.
- No Fluff: All cards have one fewer upgrade slot.
Not all Mutators put you at a disadvantage; for instance, Enchanted Armory and Amplified Armaments could synergize effectively, while No Fluff introduces a clear drawback.
As you continue to engage with future challenges, expect the intensity of these Mutators to escalate significantly.
Rewards from Dimensional Challenges

Completing Dimensional Challenges yields three distinct rewards. Below is a breakdown of how to acquire each one:
Reward |
How To Earn |
Description |
---|---|---|
Malicka’s Shifting Pyre |
Win One Dimensional Challenge |
A New Pyre For The Train |
Rock ‘N Roll Heaven |
Win Ten Dimensional Challenges |
A Cosmetic Wall For Your Train |
Pyre Crystal Mastery Frame |
Win All 21 Dimensional Challenges |
A New Frame For Card Customization |
It’s worth noting that only Malicka’s Shifting Pyre serves as a practical tool within the game, while the other two rewards are purely cosmetic.
While it’s gratifying that the most useful item is the easiest to obtain, many players may feel that the aesthetics do not offer enough motivation to pursue.

Malicka’s Shifting Pyre is a valuable option upon unlocking it, boasting 35 Attack Power and 65 Health Points, which may seem lower than other Pyres. However, its unique perk allows for the enhancement of all units acquired during your run. This potential upgrade can fundamentally alter your gameplay.
Even if the improvements on your units differ from your initial strategy, the fact that upgrades are free makes this a compelling choice. Keep Malicka’s Shifting Pyre stable, supporting it with your newly upgraded units, and focus less on its comparatively weaker stats.
