Unlike many traditional games, Dynasty Warriors: Origins does not feature a dedicated sprint button. Instead, your character naturally accelerates into a sprint after a few steps. This mechanic serves you well when traversing expansive battlefields to reach allied officers and turn the tide of battle. To enhance your mobility further, hopping on a horse is key. You can summon your mount at any point during both the overworld and in combat, and engaging in battle from horseback allows for effective hit-and-run tactics. Below is a guide on how to acquire your first horse, enhance its abilities, and switch mounts as needed.
Unlocking Your First Horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
To retrieve your initial horse, simply interact with a merchant in Chapter 1. After defeating the second major battle, “Test Of Zheng Fei”, head northeast from Wan Castle, just before reaching the camp for the Battle Of Guangzong. There, you’ll find the merchant near his horse. Speak with the vendor, and he will generously offer you your first mount, which will be automatically equipped for immediate use. To call your horse from anywhere, press down on the left joystick on consoles or the V
key on your keyboard.
Leveling Up Your Horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Your horse gains experience (XP) through various missions completed while equipped, regardless of whether it’s actively used. Completing main story battles or missions will grant XP, but XP will not be awarded for Skirmishes. Missions are easily identifiable by a red diamond containing a soldier icon. The amount of XP your horse receives correlates with the duration of the battle and how often you use it to charge into enemy ranks. As your horse levels up, it unlocks unique buffs at certain milestones, with benefits differing among the various mounts.
Switching Horses in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
While your initial horse is automatically equipped, you’ll encounter additional mounts throughout your journey. To change your horse, navigate to the Battle Preparation menu and select the option at the bottom of the left-hand sidebar. Each horse possesses distinct benefits, including variations in speed and combat abilities, so consider your options when selecting a new steed. New horses can be acquired by maximizing the peace level of a region, which will reward you with a new mount once the peace is established. Look for the associated reward at a nearby waypoint.
