Unlocking and Upgrading Hobbies in Heartopia: A Complete Guide

Heartopia presents a serene life simulation experience, ideal for those who may find games like Animal Crossing a bit too demanding. This title encapsulates a warm, inviting atmosphere crafted by XD’s development team, who aimed to create an utterly cozy environment where players can unwind and enjoy the simple pleasures of town life. Remarkably, this genre allows for such comforting mediums to thrive, untouched by stress.

Currently, participants in the Heartopia Closed Beta Test (CBT) will engage in various hobbies featured in this preliminary version. Initial hobbies, such as Fishing and Gardening, unlock swiftly, while others, like Cat Care, will demand a greater investment of time and effort.

Given the limited two-week window of the CBT, it’s essential to make the most of your time to access all the exciting hobbies Heartopia has to offer. Below is a comprehensive guide to unlocking every hobby in Heartopia’s CBT.

Unlocking Hobbies in Heartopia

The beta version of Heartopia showcases seven distinct hobbies that can be accessed primarily through a series of tutorial quests. These quests, true to the cozy town simulation genre, involve a lengthy chain of objectives.

To unlock any of these hobbies, players will require a Hobby Expansion Ticket. These special tickets are earned by completing specific tasks and are relatively scarce, making it vital to use them wisely.

Unlocking Fishing in Heartopia

The Fishing hobby becomes available early in your adventure as Vanya, the Fishing Hobby Mentor, visits your home. They will present a fishing rod along with essential guidance for your fishing endeavors.

You will receive a Hobby Expansion Ticket specifically for unlocking the Fishing hobby, and since you are still in the tutorial phase, it is mandatory to utilize it for this activity.

Unlocking Gardening in Heartopia

Much like Fishing, Gardening is unlocked during the tutorial phase. Blanc, the Gardening Mentor, pays you a visit, providing essential gear including a watering can, planters, seed packets, and a Hobby Expansion Ticket that must be used to progress in the tutorial.

Unlocking Insect Catching in Heartopia

As you conclude the initial tutorial quests and reach Developer Level 6, you will be awarded a Hobby Expansion Ticket and given the chance to select a new hobby from three available options. Meeting the Hobby Mentors for insights will be your first task.

The first mentor, Naniwa, can be found in their garden near the river, where they will explain the fascinating world of Insect Catching. If you decide on this hobby, you’ll need to return to Naniwa and use your Hobby Expansion Ticket to unlock it after meeting the other two mentors. Choose thoughtfully, as selecting a different hobby will mean waiting for your next Hobby Expansion Ticket opportunity!

Unlocking Birdwatching in Heartopia

Your second mentor visit will take you to Bailey J at the pet store. They will provide information on Birdwatching, and much like the previous mentor sessions, you will have to decide whether to unlock this hobby after completing your rounds with all three mentors.

Unlocking Cooking in Heartopia

Your final mentor meeting takes place with Massimo, situated outside his café in the town center. He will detail the Cooking hobby and encourage you to think before making a decision on your last available hobby to unlock.

Note: While any choice is valid when using your third Hobby Expansion Ticket, Cooking is highly recommended as it complements both Gardening and Fishing, enabling you to create dishes that restore stamina!

Unlocking Cat Care in Heartopia

While Heartopia teases you with an adorable kitten early on, acquiring a pet isn’t immediate. Fortunately, players can purchase kittens from Mrs. Joan in the pet store, supported by a dedicated Cat Care hobby.

However, you’ll need to attain Developer Level 12 and acquire an additional Hobby Expansion Ticket, as those awarded during the tutorial will have already been utilized.

Unlocking Dog Care in Heartopia

If cats aren’t your preference, Heartopia also offers the option of welcoming puppies into your home from Mrs. Joan’s pet shop. Just like with cats, you’ll need to achieve Developer Level 12 to become a responsible dog owner. Additionally, each pet type requires its own Hobby Expansion Ticket for unlocking.

Upgrading Hobbies in Heartopia

It’s essential to recognize that Heartopia’s hobbies function similarly to skills in other life simulation games. The key distinction is that hobbies are the focal point of the player’s experience, rather than merely a means to advance within a traditional career path. Therefore, simply unlocking a hobby is only the beginning; each hobby offers multiple progression levels that, once achieved, open doors to more complex recipes, enhanced success rates, and various bonuses.

To upgrade hobbies, players must utilize a Hobby Upgrade Ticket, which is distributed in a manner similar to Hobby Expansion Tickets, yet is more readily available. However, upgrading requires meeting specific criteria and accumulating points within your chosen hobby, often necessitating repetitive actions and expanding your Collections for larger point bonuses.
