Adobe has once again captivated mobile users with the official launch of its revolutionary generative AI platform, Firefly, now available on both Android and iOS. This exciting update follows the rollout of Photoshop for Android and is offered free of charge, albeit with some usage limitations. Below is a detailed guide on how to get started with this innovative app.
How to Get Started with Firefly
To experience Firefly, begin by installing the app on your mobile device. After launching the app, create a new account or log in with an existing one. This process enables seamless synchronization of your creations across the Firefly mobile application and the desktop version through Creative Cloud.
With Firefly, users can easily access a variety of tools designed for text-to-image, text-to-video, and image-to-video transformations. Some advanced features like Generative Fill and Generative Expand are also available, similar to those in Photoshop.
In addition to Adobe’s proprietary generative models, Firefly offers users the ability to select from several third-party AI models, including Google’s Imagen 3 and 4 for image creation and Veo 2 and 3 for video generation. Note that accessing these options typically incurs additional costs.
While some AI capabilities may require Firefly credits, which can be obtained through a Creative Cloud subscription or a dedicated Firefly plan, the app encourages experimentation and creativity across various media formats.
Creating Content with Firefly
Once you’re ready to create, navigate to the main screen of the app to explore the available tools. The top section of the interface allows you to start generating images or videos: simply enter your prompt and tap the Generate button.

When generating content, provide a detailed prompt to maximize results. Firefly will produce four variations of your request, which you can refine using the editing options located at the bottom of the screen. If you require additional choices, simply press the generate button again; however, this will cost you one Firefly credit.

The editing menu allows you to switch generative models by selecting the General button. You can also modify the Content type, choosing between generating a straightforward photograph or artistic representation.

For users seeking subtle imagery, there are options to adjust the visual intensity of your creation. Additionally, you can select the type of Composition you want Firefly to generate, whether a line drawing or an abstract work.

If you prefer a different Style, you can request modifications such as incorporating specific Color and lighting styles. After making your selections, press the Generate button once more to apply the changes, resulting in significantly altered imagery.

To revisit previously generated images, use the carousel above the Prompt input field by swiping left. If you discover an image that resonates with you, tap on it to make additional adjustments or download it directly.

The Edit feature offers tools for techniques such as Generative Fill, adding text, shapes, and graphics. Furthermore, you can instruct Firefly to develop a video inspired by your chosen image.
Editing Videos with Firefly
If you opt to generate a video, the editing menu presents options for adding keyframes, adjusting camera angles, and more. This versatility allows for comprehensive video customization through an intuitive interface.

Finding Inspiration in the Firefly App
Stuck for ideas? No worries! Simply swipe down to locate the Find inspiration in the gallery section or access the gallery through the hamburger menu located in the upper-left corner of the app.

Here, you can explore a vast array of assets created via Firefly. Tapping any item will reveal its creation prompt, which can ignite your creative process and help you formulate your own input ideas.

Moreover, you can edit existing images or videos using the options at the bottom of the screen to personalize them according to your vision. With Firefly, users are entitled to 10 free generations per month per account; therefore, upgrading to a paid plan will unlock additional functionalities.
Adobe continues to expand its suite of mobile applications, providing users with powerful editing tools at their fingertips. Alongside Firefly, consider exploring other Adobe offerings such as Premiere Rush for short video editing or Lightroom, recognized as one of the top mobile photo editing apps available.
