UNIS Flash Memory Introduces World’s Fastest PCIe Gen5 SSDs with Blazing Speeds of Up to 14,900 MB/s

UNIS Flash Memory, a prominent Chinese manufacturer, has recently introduced one of the quickest SSDs available globally, boasting unprecedented speeds of up to 14, 900 MB/s.

Introducing the S5 & S5 Ultra: The Pinnacle of Gen5 SSD Technology

In a remarkable display of innovation, UNIS Flash Memory, a subsidiary of UNISplendour Corporation Limited, has launched its new S5 series—comprised of the S5 and S5 Ultra models. These SSDs are designed for high-performance computing, durability, and blistering speeds that are unprecedented in the storage market.

Both models of the S5 series come with an M.2 2280 form factor and utilize 3D TLC NAND flash memory technology. To facilitate optimal performance, these drives are equipped with a 1mm graphene heat sink; however, users seeking maximum efficiency are advised to pair them with additional cooling solutions. The integration of a PCIe 5.0 x 4 interface allows these SSDs to compete closely with other high-end options in the market, such as the Crucial T705. Despite the company’s origins, UNIS Flash Memory has effectively established itself as a leader in the performance segment with this new lineup.

Examining the specifications in detail, the S5 model operates without DRAM but leverages a combination of Host Memory Buffer (HMB) and SLC caching to achieve impressive read speeds of up to 14, 900 MB/s and write speeds of 12, 900 MB/s. This outpaces the current leading SSD, the Crucial T705, which is rated at 14, 500 MB/s for read and 12, 700 MB/s for write. While the S5 may be positioned as the fastest SSD on the market, comprehensive testing will be needed to confirm its performance superiority.

The S5 Ultra presents slightly lower performance metrics with maximum read/write speeds of 14, 200 MB/s and 13, 400 MB/s, respectively. However, it is distinguished by a more advanced 6nm main control chip, contributing to its durability ratings of up to 1200TBW for the S5 and 2400TBW for the Ultra, making it an ideal choice for demanding productivity tasks. Clearly, these models represent the high end of UNIS’s offerings, and we anticipate future developments from the brand.

Regarding storage capacities, the S5 series is set to be available in configurations of 1TB and 2TB, while the S5 Ultra will offer options of 2TB and 4TB. Currently, there’s limited information on pricing and availability across different regions, but enthusiasts are hopeful for a global launch that enables hands-on performance testing of these claim-backed speeds.
