Bungie has unveiled exciting details about the Fragile Mods accompanying Destiny 2‘s latest content update, Episode Heresy, set to release on February 4. As the launch date approaches, the developer has been gradually disclosing new features, generating considerable anticipation among the player community.

During a recent livestream, Bungie provided an in-depth look at Episode Heresy, showcasing its primary gameplay activity known as The Nether. Drawing inspiration from the twisted Leviathan of the Season of the Haunted, this new mode blends exploration and combat. Players will navigate the Dreadnaught and face customized modifiers and adversaries, ensuring a fresh experience with each playthrough.

In this showcase, weapons took center stage, with Bungie confirming the return of fan-favorite weapons from the Season of Arrivals and Vault of Glass. Notably, the popular hand cannon Fatebringer will make a comeback. New weapons featured prominently as well, including a Strand-powered support autorifle named Adamantite and an arc area denial grenade launcher called Psychopomp. Together, they contribute to what Bungie refers to as the “Heretical Arsenal, ”which also introduces an intriguing mechanic: Fragile Mods.

The Fragile Mods allow players to equip Heretic weapons with two Origin traits, alongside specialized visual effects and additional perks. According to Bungie’s latest blog post, these modifications will create new build opportunities, significantly enhancing weapon performance. However, players must earn these mods, with Act 1 offering only two modules initially, and more to follow in Acts 2 and 3. It’s important to note that these mods will only be available until the end of Episode Heresy.

Although the temporary nature of Fragile Mods might disappoint some players, it’s consistent with the ongoing evolution of Destiny 2. This summer, the game is set to transform further with the upcoming Codename Frontiers expansion—details of which are still largely undisclosed. Given that much of the seasonal content from the past year typically gets vaulted before the arrival of new expansions, players should prepare for similar changes leading up to the full launch of Codename Frontiers.
