Known by various personas, including Penta El Zero M, Penta El Zero Miedo, Pentagon Dark, and Penta Oscuro, Penta embarked on his professional wrestling journey in 2004 as Pentagon Jr. He quickly made a name for himself at Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide in 2010, which is recognized as Mexico’s largest wrestling organization. His significant impact was greatly amplified through the influential ’90s partnership between AAA and WCW, a pivotal era in wrestling history. Penta’s early achievements in AAA paved the way for his international career, particularly following his participation in the Lucha Underground series.
During his tenure in Lucha Underground, Penta faced eminent wrestlers including Rey Mysterio and Ricochet (known as Prince Puma). He also competed in intergender matches alongside notable WWE figures like IYO WeY and Chelsea Green. His reputation continued to expand in North America during a brief stint with Impact Wrestling, where he captured the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. However, Penta’s major breakthrough occurred with his inclusion in AEW’s inaugural roster in 2019.
Making a striking debut alongside his brother, fellow luchador Rey Fenix, Penta initially faced the Young Bucks. The Lucha Brothers would eventually claim victory against the Young Bucks at All Out 2021, securing the AEW World Tag Team Championship. In the following year, the trio again thrived alongside Pac (formerly WWE’s Neville) to win the AEW World Trios Championship as part of their Death Triangle faction.

Throughout the summer of 2024, rumors circulated that the Lucha Brothers were preparing to join WWE as their contracts with AEW neared expiration. Speculations surfaced about plans for a potential Trios Championship run at the All In: London event; however, these plans were altered once the duo entered contract discussions with WWE. Ultimately, Penta’s contract concluded as anticipated in late November to December 2024.
Meanwhile, Rey Fenix encountered an injury that extended his AEW contract, delaying his eligibility for free agency by one year. He has since taken to social media—some posts now deleted—to voice his grievances regarding AEW management’s handling of his medical situation. While it might take some time for Fenix to join his brother in WWE, Penta is set to make his mark as a solo competitor.

Penta is expected to debut in the WWE ring next week on Monday Night Raw, facing Chad Gable—a matchup eagerly anticipated by fans. WWE’s recently increased luchador presence can revitalize the company’s roster, filling a gap that has persisted in recent years. Historically, WWE has attempted to replicate Rey Mysterio’s success through talents like Sin Cara and groups such as Lucha House Party, but these efforts did not yield the same level of resonance.
