Aoi Todo, a standout character in the acclaimed Jujutsu Kaisen series, serves as a third-year student at Kyoto High School and is recognized as a grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer. His prowess stems from a potent cursed technique called Boogie Woogie, which enables him to swap places with any object or person imbued with cursed energy.
Under the mentorship of Yuji Tsukumo, one of the four special grade jujutsu sorcerers, Todo has established himself as one of the most powerful figures within the universe of Jujutsu Kaisen. Alongside his formidable skills, his eccentric admiration for pop idol Takada-chan adds a layer of complexity to his character, while his deep bond with Yuji further exemplifies his multifaceted personality.

The Hidden Strengths of Boogie Woogie

Boogie Woogie is one of the most distinctive cursed techniques, and when coupled with Todo’s strategic intelligence, its effectiveness is magnified. Renowned for his unpredictable combat style, Todo leverages Boogie Woogie to swap positions with any target that contains cursed energy, crafting tactical advantages that leave his adversaries bewildered.
This means Todo can switch places not only with allies but also with foes and objects on the battlefield. Notably, the technique doesn’t require physical contact—any item or individual merely needs to possess cursed energy for the swap to be executed.
The activation of Boogie Woogie is remarkably flexible; Todo simply has to clap his hands to switch places instantly. Additionally, he can feign a clap to further confuse his opponents, making it increasingly challenging for them to counter his maneuvers. In one notable confrontation, Todo strategically utilized Boogie Woogie to swap Yuji with the cursed tool Playful Cloud, allowing for powerful retaliatory strikes against Hanami.
Todo’s continuous repositioning of Yuji during their battle exemplified the tactical brilliance of Boogie Woogie, culminating in Yuji landing three consecutive hits using Black Flash. In the Shibuya Incident Arc, Todo’s adept use of this technique enabled him to keep pace with the notorious cursed spirit Mahito.

Boogie Woogie: Disadvantages Explored

Despite its remarkable strengths, Boogie Woogie does have significant drawbacks. Primarily, activating this technique requires both hands, making Todo vulnerable if he sustains an injury that compromises an arm. A pertinent example occurs during his clash with Mahito when Todo loses the use of one arm, temporarily disabling his ability to execute Boogie Woogie. However, displaying quick thinking and strategic skill, he manages to slap Mahito’s hand to switch places with Yuji and set up an attack.
Another limitation is that only entities with cursed energy can be involved in the swap. Thus, Todo cannot trade places with regular humans or objects that lack this energy.

While inherently unpredictable, adept opponents can learn to anticipate Todo’s movements if he uses Boogie Woogie too frequently, rendering it less effective over time. Skilled adversaries can time their strikes to counterattack as soon as Todo claps, nullifying the advantage of the swap. The technique does not deal direct damage, as the effectiveness relies heavily on Todo’s tactical prowess and timing. Additionally, it proves less effective against foes capable of executing wide-reaching attacks without requiring precise movement.
