Disney Dreamlight Valley, while seeming like an endearing and lighthearted simulation game rooted in Disney’s vast legacy, has not been without its share of controversies. Recently, one of the game’s essential components, Scrooge’s Store, has become a focal point of player dissatisfaction due to inexplicable item disappearances. This situation has left the community not only baffled but also frustrated, especially in light of Gameloft’s silence on the matter.
Previous issues have also plagued Disney Dreamlight Valley, particularly concerning the quality of gameplay and the grind associated with its Star Paths, which function similarly to a battle pass. Complaints have also surfaced regarding certain character voice lines and the game’s monetization strategies, further intensifying player concerns.
The Mystery of Scrooge’s Store

At the heart of the current uproar is the mysterious removal of exclusive items from Scrooge’s catalog, including those themed around the Monsters, Inc. realm and a whimsical Small Quirky Teapot that was once part of the Dreamlight Park Community Challenge. Additionally, items connected to various quests have vanished without explanation, adding to the community’s frustration.
This trend raises speculation among players that Gameloft may be preparing to move these coveted items to the Premium Shop, where transactions are conducted using Moonstones—Disney Dreamlight Valley’s premium currency. Unlike items available in Scrooge’s Store that can be purchased with Star Coins, Premium Shop items are often regarded as more elaborate or exclusive, originally debuted through a prior Star Path. Thus, the sudden absence of items such as the Monster Mug Rack and Monsters, Inc. Computer seems deliberate and strategic.
Notably, Gameloft has not publicly communicated any intentions regarding the removal of these items or potential shop transitions, intensifying player distrust. This is not the first instance of abrupt price hikes or item removals; for example, the Cozy Fireplace item was altered significantly in price—from 4, 000 Star Coins to an astonishing 24, 000 Star Coins—following the introduction of the Scar’s Kingdom update, marking an incredible 600% increase.
Communication Breakdown with Gameloft

With items like the Cozy Fireplace still purchasable using Star Coins, players now fear that these mysteriously missing items are making way for a monetization strategy that leans heavily on the Premium Shop format. If this trend continues, players might be forced to exchange their treasured Moonstones or even spend real money on items that were once attainable through gameplay.
Add to this the existing issues of game bugs—players have reported frustrating glitches such as erratic bubble spawns and the inability to collect squid stacks—for weeks without resolution. Associations are forming on social media that suggest Gameloft prioritizes monetization over community engagement. Players are continuously left in the dark concerning not just the fate of disappearing items, but also expected updates and fixes that could enhance their experience.
Looking ahead, the 2025 base game roadmap hinted at an early-year update, with another planned for Spring 2025. However, communication from Gameloft has been notably absent since the last update in December 2024. As anticipation builds for the potential introduction of Aladdin and Jasmine, players eagerly await clarity on whether items missing from Scrooge’s catalog will reappear in their original format or transition to a more costly shop option.
