Understanding Sonic Barrier in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Hunting Horn stands out as the premier utility weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds, primarily due to its unique capability to enhance teammates. Among its arsenal of melodies, Sonic Barrier emerges as one of the most valuable, especially when tackling formidable foes.

Although the Hunting Horn may lack the visual flair of weapons like the Dual Blades found in MH Wilds, the benefits it brings to your team are irrefutable. Particularly when facing aggressive monsters, the Sonic Barrier melody can be a game-changer. Below, we’ll explore what Sonic Barrier entails and how to effectively utilize it in your hunts.

Sonic Barrier is one of the specific melodies featured in the Hunting Horn repertoire. This defensive tune is designed to negate the next instance of interruption that a player might encounter. More explicitly, it protects against roars, tremors, strong winds, and knockback effects.

It’s important to note that Sonic Barrier is capable of blocking just a single interruption at a time. Consequently, players should be vigilant in reapplying the melody to maximize its defensive capabilities. A significant advantage of Sonic Barrier is its applicability to the entire team, underscoring the Hunting Horn’s effectiveness in cooperative gameplay within MH Wilds.

While not all Hunting Horns can perform Sonic Barrier, the note sequence required to produce this melody can differ among horns. Nevertheless, securing this melody is highly beneficial during encounters with large monsters.

To initiate Sonic Barrier, first check the melody list displayed in the upper-right corner of your screen during a hunt. Once you’ve entered the correct notes in the musical bar located beneath your Stamina and Sharpness meters, use R2/RT/R to perform Sonic Barrier. After the melody plays, you and any teammates nearby will receive the protective buff.

After executing a melody, consider performing an Encore by pressing R2/RT/R again to extend or enhance the effects of Sonic Barrier. This Encore counts as an attack, providing an excellent opportunity to conclude combos, especially when facing a downed or incapacitated monster.

You may chain up to three melodies within the music bar of your Hunting Horn, allowing for a combination of different Performance attacks based on the number of notes you can group within four notes.
