In episode 6 of Solo Leveling Season 2 – Arise from the Shadow, titled “Don’t Look Down On My Guys”, Sung Jinwoo faces off against Kargalgan and his formidable High Orc army. During this intense battle, Jinwoo mobilizes his Shadow Army while utilizing a new Skill acquired from his previous encounter at the Demon Castle. This Skill, which is exclusive to the Shadow Monarch, notably amplifies the combat effectiveness of his Shadows.

The Monarch’s Domain Skill proves to be incredibly effective, elevating Jinwoo’s Shadows to approximately B-Rank fighting capabilities. This enhancement allows them to compete against High Orcs, who each possess strength akin to an A-Rank Hunter. But what exactly does the Monarch’s Domain entail?

The Monarch’s Domain Skill allows its user to extend their shadow over a designated area, resulting in a dramatic 50% increase in the capabilities of any Shadows within the Domain during combat. This ability provides the user with significant control over the battlefield, enabling alterations to the environment in their favor. It bears similarities to Domain Expansions in Jujutsu Kaisen, specifically echoing Megumi Fushiguro’s Chimera Shadow Garden, which similarly leverages its user’s summoning capabilities.

Furthermore, the Monarch’s Domain enhances the user’s own power, enabling them to operate at peak efficiency while providing protection against certain external attacks. Although elemental variations have not yet been displayed in Solo Leveling, they remain a viable feature of the Skill. Known practitioners of the Monarch’s Domain include Sung Jinwoo, his son Son Suho, and the former Shadow Monarch, Ashborn.

An outstanding aspect of the Monarch’s Domain is that it requires no Mana to activate. While managing and resurrecting Shadows can drain Mana, this beneficial Skill enhances their combat stats at no cost. Consequently, while not allowing for straightforward 1-on-1 confrontations with High Orcs, Jinwoo’s top Shadows, including Iron (previously A-Rank Tank, Kim Chul), Igris (A-Rank), and Tank (at least B-Rank), effectively battled, taking down all four of Kargalgan’s most powerful officers with stunning animation.

It is intriguing to note that the Monarch’s Domain does not appear to have a level cap or incremental limitations, suggesting its full potential is realized immediately upon acquisition. The Skill’s boost significantly facilitated Jinwoo’s Shadow Soldiers in the fight, also enabling him to decisively defeat the High Orc leader, utilizing Shadows from his prior top-tier officers.

Possible Limitations of the Monarch’s Domain Skill

Undefined Range and Duration

Typically, more potent abilities carry certain drawbacks or limitations that hinder their constant use, whether due to adverse effects on the user or having a significant cost. The Monarch’s Domain stands out due to its lack of Mana cost while providing a substantial 50% boost to all Shadows within its confines. Additionally, gaining this Skill required Jinwoo to conquer Level 70 of the Demon Castle, but its apparent lack of usage limits during his confrontation with Kargalgan is noteworthy.

As the Hunters Association Surveillance Team monitored the Gate, they were overwhelmed by Jinwoo’s aura from outside, suggesting that the Monarch’s Domain might have been activated across the entire Dungeon. If true, this implies that the Skill may have no range limitations, allowing Jinwoo to empower Shadows over vast battlefields. Furthermore, there has been no indication regarding the duration of the Monarch’s Domain once it is activated, leading to the conclusion that it may not have a time limit, especially given the absence of a Mana requirement.
