Understanding OTF: Insights into Lil Durk’s Group Following Recent Murder for Hire Arrest
On Thursday, October 24, OTF rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, was taken into custody in Broward County, Florida. A report by XXL reveals that he is facing serious allegations of murder-for-hire and is currently being held in the Broward County Jail without the option for bail.
Lil Durk founded an American hip-hop collective known as OTF, which stands for Only The Family, back in 2010 in Chicago, Illinois. This label has had various notable artists associated with it, including the late King Von, OTF Nuski, Booka600, OTF Boonie Moe, OTF DEDE, and Doodie Lo.
Initially, Only The Family was affiliated with Moroccan rapper French Montana’s Coke Boys group, known as OTF Coke Boys. Eventually, they distanced themselves from Montana’s group and are now aligned with Empire Distribution.
Five alleged OTF members arrested for murder involving Quando Rondo’s cousin
Just hours before Lil Durk’s arrest, five alleged affiliates of Only The Family were charged with conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire in connection with the August 19, 2022, incident involving rapper Quando Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, in Los Angeles. Those arrested include Kavon London Grant (also known as Vonnie), Deandre Dontrell Wilson (aka DeDe), David Brian Lindsey (aka Browneyez), Asa Houston (aka Boogie), and Keith Jones (aka Flacka).
On August 19, 2022, Fox 11 Los Angeles reported that Quando Rondo and his entourage were allegedly targeted in a shooting while stopping for gas at a Beverly Grove neighborhood station around 5:30 p.m. They fled the scene and stopped near the intersection of Santa Monica and San Vicente boulevards in West Hollywood, where law enforcement was later contacted.
While Rondo escaped without injury, his cousin Saviay’a Robinson was tragically shot and succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The indictment against the five suspects was filed in the U.S. District Court for Los Angeles on October 24. According to the Chicago Tribune, all accused individuals were linked to Lil Durk’s OTF collective.
The prosecution presented evidence that the individuals’ travel expenses, including flights and rental cars, were covered by a credit card connected to OTF. It was also suggested that an anonymous entity offered significant “music opportunities”to anyone willing to kill Quando Rondo.
The authorities claimed that the shooting was retribution for the death of King Von, a former OTF member, who was killed in a shooting incident involving Quando Rondo’s associate, Lul Timm, in Atlanta in 2020.
According to federal agents, Vonnie allegedly took a private jet from Miami to oversee the attack, arranging accommodations and crucial supplies for the mission, which included obtaining masks, guns, and vehicles with fake plates.
Reports from TMZ indicate that Houston and Jones have a court hearing scheduled for Monday, October 28, in Chicago, while the other three individuals opted not to secure hearings there and will instead be extradited to Los Angeles.
