On October 25, entertainment news platform RapTV reported that the rapper Lil Durk was apprehended. A screenshot of the arrest report indicated that he was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals on accusations related to a murder-for-hire scheme. As of the publication of this article, there is no confirmation regarding the status of his bail.
Renowned livestreamer DJ Akademiks relayed on social media that Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Derrick Banks, was initially detained at the Broward County Correctional Facility. He is set to be extradited to California to confront federal charges. Akademiks further commented:
“His charge is ‘MURDER FOR HIRE’ in connection with the death of Quano Rondo’s cousin, ‘LUL PAB.’”
A mugshot of Lil Durk was also shared at that time.
For those unfamiliar with the term, a murder-for-hire charge applies when an individual offers compensation or incentives for another person’s death. This legal situation is often categorized as conspiracy to commit murder, contract killing, or murder solicitation. Individuals might resort to this method when they cannot perform the act themselves or wish to dissociate from the crime.
Information from Defend Your Case indicates that if convicted of murder for hire, the penalty could be a life sentence if the victim is killed. If the victim sustains injuries but survives, the maximum sentence may range up to 20 years. The site also notes:
“Should the conspiracy exist, but the target is neither injured nor killed, the probable sentence can be around ten years.”
Five Accomplices Apprehended Alongside Lil Durk on Murder for Hire Allegations
WGN9 highlighted that five additional suspects, along with Lil Durk, were captured for allegedly plotting against rapper Quando Rondo, who is believed to have connections to the shooting death of Chicago rapper King Von in Atlanta back in 2020.
The individuals taken into custody include Kavon London Grant, Keith Jones, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston. Prosecutors have pointed out that these five have affiliations with the Only the Family (OTF) music collective, which Lil Durk established in 2010.
According to Audacy, although the defendants targeted Rondo, his 24-year-old cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, sadly lost his life. DJ Akademiks stated on X that Lul Pab was presumably the deceased individual.
The five suspects, besides Lil Durk, are also facing additional allegations, such as murder for hire leading to death, firearm violations, and discharging firearms, including a machine gun, in connection with a violent crime that resulted in a fatality.
The federal indictment specifies that OTF members utilized a credit card to purchase tickets for a trip to Chicago, aiming to locate Rondo on August 18, 2022. They subsequently managed to obtain firearms that were intended for the attack on Rondo, but tragically, they ended up fatally wounding Lul Pab.
As of now, the specifics of Lil Durk’s alleged involvement in the conspiracy against Quando Rondo remain undefined.
