Among the various status ailments players encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds, Frenzy stands out due to its unique nature, acting as a double-edged sword. While it presents significant risks, seasoned players can leverage it to their advantage, adding an intriguing layer of strategy to their hunts.
Frenzy does not appear in every installment of the Monster Hunter franchise, but when it does, it offers hunters a potentially game-changing tactic. For newcomers or those unfamiliar with its mechanics, this guide will shed light on what Frenzy entails, provide steps to cure it, and explore how to effectively utilize it during combat.
Understanding Frenzy in Monster Hunter Wilds

Frenzy is an abnormal status effect triggered primarily when battling the Gore Magala or other Frenzied creatures. The ailment is particularly severe as it halts natural health recovery—players automatically lose the ability to see red health restoration upon receiving damage. Furthermore, hunters afflicted by Frenzy will endure increased damage from enemy attacks.
In contrast to other ailments like Burning or Paralysis, Frenzy introduces a delayed reaction. When afflicted, a meter appears above the hunter’s health bar indicating the buildup of the status effect. This meter fills progressively, accelerating if the player is hit by further Frenzy-inducing strikes. The repercussions of Frenzy only manifest once the meter is completely filled.
Strategies for Curing Frenzy

Cleansing Frenzy differs from other status effects found in Monster Hunter Wilds, as it occurs in two distinct stages. Each stage can be removed through specific actions.
The initial stage occurs immediately upon infection. In this early phase, hunters can alleviate Frenzy by actively attacking monsters. While other cleansing methods aren’t effective during this period, consuming a Nulberry can help delay the buildup of the status effect.
Once a hunter becomes fully afflicted, the second phase begins. At this point, the Frenzy effect can be cured either by eating a Nulberry or employing other cleansing tactics, such as using Purewasps. For optimal results, it’s advisable to cleanse Frenzy during its initial phase to benefit from enhanced Affinity for a limited time.
The Antivirus Armor Skill

An armor skill known as Antivirus significantly simplifies the process of cleansing the first stage of Frenzy. Furthermore, it amplifies the Affinity accrued once the status is cleared, making it particularly advantageous for builds that focus on critical hits.
While the Antivirus skill is generally effective against Frenzied monsters, wearing four pieces of the Gore Magala armor set unlocks the Black Eclipse skill, which has the following effects:
- Black Eclipse I: Grants Frenzy when engaged with large monsters.
- Black Eclipse II: Additionally raises Attack power while infected and boosts Attack Power upon recovery.
For aggressive players wielding weapons like the Dual Blades or Switch Axe, leveraging Frenzy alongside the Gore Magala armor can create high-damage opportunities in Monster Hunter Wilds.
