In the world of The Sims 4, players bring diverse gameplay styles, shaping their experiences uniquely. While many players enjoy crafting intricate designs in Build Mode, others dive deep into Live Mode, engaging with various gameplay elements. Among the community, legacy challenges and family-centric gameplay reign supreme, making each new pack that incorporates family themes highly anticipated.
The Businesses and Hobbies expansion pack not only introduces the exciting concept of managing a small business but also enhances family gameplay with delightful additions like the Candy-crafting machine and the ability to create Family Recipes. This guide aims to help players master the art of crafting and passing down Family Recipes, as well as unlocking all the Special Touch meal effects in The Sims 4.
Creating a Family Recipe in The Sims 4

Contrary to popular belief, Family Recipes aren’t exclusive to older Sims. As long as a Sim can practice their Cooking Skill, they have the potential to create a Family Recipe.
To create a Family Recipe, players need to use a refrigerator or oven, navigate to the Family Recipes menu, and select “Create a Family Recipe”. Here, they will choose a base recipe, a secret ingredient, and a Special Touch. After naming the dish and confirming, the recipe will be saved, complete with a unique meal effect that positively impacts those who consume it.
Once a Family Recipe is established, it can be taught to another household member. However, it’s important to note that these recipes cannot be passed to family members who are not part of the current household.
Interestingly, even younger Sims who haven’t yet mastered cooking can remember and prepare the Family Recipe in their future culinary endeavors.
The video included below offers a detailed demonstration of how to create a Family Recipe, illustrating its effects and the process of sharing it with others in the household.
