The latest version of Sid Meier’s Civilization introduces an intriguing element known as Crisis Events. These events come with accompanying Crisis Policies that are conveniently located on the same interface as the Social Policies available to your civilization.
Understanding Crisis Policies

In Civilization 7, each distinct Crisis Event is paired with a specific set of Crisis Policies that players must choose from. Although certain policies may appear advantageous, they often carry significant drawbacks that manifest during gameplay. These policies are primarily designed to mitigate the repercussions of an ongoing crisis rather than offer a complete resolution. Players will face challenging decisions as the crises evolve, necessitating the selection of additional Crisis Policies over time.
Defining Crisis Events
Crisis Events typically emerge during both the Antiquity and Exploration Ages. Players might contend with a range of scenarios, including unrelenting invasions or devastating pandemics. It’s crucial to note that while these events are inevitable, their onset can vary in timing. Below is a breakdown of potential occurrences in the Antiquity and Exploration Ages:
Antiquity Age Events
- Revolts: Elevated discontent among your citizenry leads to widespread unrest, resulting in open rebellion against your authority.
- Invasion: Independent powers may launch overwhelming assaults on your territory, necessitating a robust military response.
- Plague: This terrifying epidemic can become a monumental challenge to manage, especially given the limited medical advancements of the era.
Exploration Age Events
- Wars of Religion: As nations promote their respective faiths, conflicts can erupt, prompting players to consider how to handle religious tolerance.
- Revolution: The rise of the bourgeoisie and middle classes could challenge the existing hierarchy, offering players the choice to suppress the uprising or embrace revolutionary change.
- Plague: This deadly event can also occur during the Exploration Age, with increased options for management, albeit with heightened risks of contagion.
While players cannot avoid Crisis Events in gameplay, those starting a fresh session in Civilization 7 have the option to toggle them off to prevent these complications in their new adventures.
