Understanding 2C-B: The Powerful Substance Found in Liam Payne’s Toxicology Report

According to a toxicology report, Liam Payne was found to have several substances in his system following his tragic passing on October 16. ABC News highlighted that the former One Direction member tested positive for a range of drugs including cocaine, benzodiazepines, crack cocaine, and 2C-B, often referred to as pink cocaine.

A preliminary report provided last week indicated that the musician’s death resulted from “polytrauma” accompanied by “internal and external hemorrhage.” While Fox News confirmed that the final toxicology results are still pending and won’t be available for several weeks, initial findings pointed towards the presence of cocaine.

Amongst the various substances that were discovered in Liam Payne’s system, 2C-B has raised alarm bells for U.S. federal authorities, especially after its emergence in regions across Latin America and Europe. Despite its nickname ‘pink cocaine,’ this drug does not contain actual cocaine but is a mixture of other perilous chemicals and a food dye that imparts its distinct pink hue.

2C-B can comprise a variety of substances including MDMA, ketamine, methamphetamine, opioids, and other psychoactive agents.

Bridget Brennan, New York’s special narcotics prosecutor, pointed out that ‘pink cocaine’ is frequently associated with being utilized as a date rape drug, known to induce memory loss. She explained:

“It can place individuals into a ‘k-hole’ where they feel disassociated from reality and experience a disconnect from both their body and mind, rendering them oblivious to their surroundings.”

Reports indicate the presence of the hallucinogenic ‘Cristal’ drug in Liam Payne’s system

On the date of his passing, TMZ disclosed that authorities discovered the hallucinogenic substance known as ‘Cristal’ within the singer’s system. This drug is infamous for triggering hallucinations and psychotic episodes when ingested.

According to information from TMZ, officers noted that the substance leads users to experience volatile emotional swings, resulting often in aggressive behavior. This could have contributed to Liam Payne’s unpredictable conduct, which tragically culminated in his fall from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he was vacationing.

Emergency personnel received a 911 call from hotel staff who expressed urgency regarding Payne’s well-being, fearing for his safety. They stated:

“We urgently need assistance as we’re unsure if the guest’s life is at stake. He is in a room with a balcony, and we fear he might take actions that could endanger his life.”

A guest at the hotel also corroborated that the 31-year-old singer was in visible distress, recounting:

“I approached him and asked if he was alright, but he merely grunted. Then he mentioned, -I was in a boy band. That’s why I’m so f**ked up.’”

Upon inspection, Buenos Aires police reported that Payne’s hotel room was in utter chaos, revealing shattered furniture and drug paraphernalia scattered throughout.

During his time with One Direction, Liam Payne reportedly battled addiction and mental health challenges. Notably, in 2023, he underwent a 100-day treatment program at a rehabilitation center in Louisiana.

Liam Payne’s remains will remain in Argentina until the autopsy procedures are finalized.
