Upcoming Feature on Oxygen’s Snapped
Oxygen’s popular true crime series, Snapped, intends to examine the unsettling circumstances surrounding Professor Ronald Bettig’s death in an upcoming episode. Titled Danelle Geier, this installment—part of season 34, episode 17—will premiere on November 3, 2024, at 6 PM ET.
The Circumstances of Ronald Bettig’s Death
At the age of 56, Ronald Bettig tragically fell approximately 75 feet from a cliff, leading to his death. Initial inquiries suggested a possible suicide due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his disappearance from home, alongside his vehicle. However, as authorities investigated further, they began to suspect foul play.
Postmortem examinations confirmed that Bettig succumbed to blunt force trauma from the fall. What initially appeared to be a suicide turned out to be a much darker narrative.
A Dark Plot Uncovered
Through their investigation, detectives uncovered that Bettig had formed friendships with George Ishler and Danelle Geier, both of whom he met through shared interests, including marijuana. However, as their relationship developed, it took a treacherous turn. Allegedly, Ishler and Geier conspired to murder Bettig for financial reasons.
On August 12, 2016, Bettig was reportedly lured to the quarry, where Ishler pushed him to his death. Following the incident, both Ishler and Geier attempted to stage the scene to suggest that Bettig had taken his own life. Nevertheless, their ploy unraveled, leading to their eventual arrest.
Legal Consequences for Ishler and Geier
During the subsequent court proceedings, prosecutors highlighted the financial motives behind the murder. Bettig had recently enacted a will that significantly benefited Ishler and Geier upon his demise.
While Ishler initially denied his involvement, he later admitted to pushing Bettig, acknowledging his responsibility for the professor’s tragic end. After a six-day trial, both Ishler and Geier were convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in April 2018.
