Ultimate Soul Voice Guide for Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition

Ultimate Soul Voice Guide for Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition

Xenoblade Chronicles X presents players with an intriguing combat system that, at first glance, appears straightforward. Engaging an enemy prompts auto-attacks from your character, while you can occasionally deploy powerful Arts. However, these components synergize, offering a richly layered JRPG battle experience that rewards depth and strategy.

To assist players in mastering its mechanics, the game includes a variety of tutorials. Yet, new players might find the sheer volume of information overwhelming, particularly in the early stages when acclimating to the game’s nuances.

A notable source of confusion is the Soul Voice mechanic. In this guide, we will demystify Soul Voice, examining its functions and providing strategic insights to maximize its potential.

Understanding the Soul Voice Mechanic

Soul Challenge in Xenoblade Chronicles X

During battles, players might notice an orange circle appearing, signaling a quick-time event known as a Soul Challenge. Your performance in this QTE determines the outcome:

  • Good: Heals the party, boosts the Morale bar, and activates related Soul Voice bonuses.
  • Perfect: Grants the same benefits as Good, plus additional TP recovery.

To initiate a Soul Challenge, players must execute specific actions linked to their chosen Soul Voices. There are various configurations available, allowing for personalized strategies based on gameplay preferences.

Successful completion of Soul Challenges elevates Morale, displayed as a yellow bar beneath your Arts Palette. Notably, as Morale rises, the frequency of Soul Voice activations increases, although the difficulty of completing a challenge also escalates.

Selecting a Soul Voice

Soul Voice Selection Menu

Accessing a Soul Voice for your character is straightforward—simply press Start, navigate to Party, and select Soul Voice. However, initial navigation of this interface may feel daunting.

There are 16 Soul Voice triggers available: 12 fixed and 4 customizable, each possessing two key attributes:

  • Trigger Condition: The action required to potentially activate a Soul Challenge.
  • Voice Type: The effect your character gains upon successfully completing a Soul Challenge.

For instance, the trigger condition for Artful Execution necessitates that “a character successfully uses an Art’s special effect.”Many Arts have special effects, such as attacking from certain angles or completing combos, which count towards activation.

To simplify decision-making, a visual cue—a small exclamation mark above an Art—identifies when an Art will activate its special effect, so prioritize these opportunities. This hold true for all Soul Voice conditions, whether initiating combat with specific attacks or targeting monster appendages. Remember, though fulfilling a condition doesn’t ensure a Soul Challenge will be triggered.

Choosing the Optimal Voice Type

Custom Soul Voice Options

Each Soul Voice features three distinct Voice Types, each providing unique effects upon completing a Soul Challenge. These may pertain to melee or ranged attack enhancements, buffs, enemy debuffs, or even the Soul Heal effect, which restores the entire party’s health.

Your choice of Voice Type is heavily influenced by your character’s build. For instance, if your primary class is Astral Crusader, focusing on Ranged Arts, selecting Voice Types that boost sniper effectiveness would be advantageous.

The customizable Soul Voices allow you to choose conditions ranging from general triggers to highly specific ones like “Be healed by a female character.”Whether you opt for broad triggers applicable to any class or prefer to fine-tune based on your team composition is up to you.

Activating Party Members’ Soul Voices

Party Member Soul Voice Activation

Your party members possess Soul Voices as well, which are non-editable and activate under different conditions. During encounters, watch for commands issued by your allies—these momentarily indicate the type of action you’ll need to execute using your Arts in order to trigger their Soul Voice effects.

It can be challenging to interpret a party member’s request amidst the chaos of battle, particularly when adrenaline is high. Fortunately, whenever a Soul Voice activation is possible, one of your Arts will emit a glow. Using this highlighted Art successfully unleashes beneficial effects.

In the example above, the glowing Arts indicated that Yelv’s commands were relevant to ranged attacks, suggesting the ideal time to maximize damage. If the glowing Art is melee, ranged, or supportive and applicable for healing, your entire party will benefit.

It’s crucial to remain attentive to your party’s suggestions; it could mean the difference between victory and defeat, particularly if a teammate’s Soul Voice allows for crucial healing. Avoid spamming your Arts indiscriminately; sometimes, waiting for an optimal moment to trigger a party member’s Soul Voice can yield greater rewards, leveraging the Secondary Cooldown feature for enhanced effects.
