Ultimate Jiaoqiu Build for Honkai Star Rail: Light Cone, Relics, and Team Compositions

UPDATE 16/12/2024: We have added additional information about the best Relics and Ornaments for Jiaoqiu, as well as the ascension materials needed to level him.

Optimizing Your Jiaoqiu Build in Honkai Star Rail

Crafting an effective Jiaoqiu build in Honkai Star Rail may surprise you with its unique requirements. Though Jiaoqiu relies on effect hit rate (EHR) for optimal performance, his kit provides multiple ways to achieve this stat, meaning you don’t need to prioritize it exclusively. Interestingly, conventional damage-over-time (DOT) builds aren’t as beneficial for him, as it can take time to stack his debuff on enemies to full effect.

On the upside, Jiaoqiu’s distinct playstyle allows for a variety of build strategies, eliminating the need for excessive grinding to acquire the perfect equipment. In this guide, we will explore the best Light Cones, Relics, ascension materials, and team setups to elevate your Jiaoqiu gameplay.

Best Build for Jiaoqiu

Top Light Cones for Jiaoqiu

5-Star Light Cones

In the recent 2.x patches, HoYoverse has reinforced the significance of signature Light Cones, and Jiaoqiu’s Those Many Springs is no exception. This powerful cone increases the user’s effect hit rate by 60%, making it ideal for maximizing his Bonus Trace buff. Additionally, it provides a significant 60% base chance to inflict the Unarmored debuff with every basic attack, skill, or ultimate move. Enemies suffering from the Unarmored debuff take 10% additional damage for two turns. If Jiaoqiu also applies a damage-over-time effect, there’s a 60% chance that Unarmored will escalate into Cornered, resulting in a 14% damage increase instead.

When paired with Jiaoqiu’s fully skilled talent and five stacks of Ashen Roast on a target, his skills can lead to an impressive 39% increase in damage dealt to enemies.

For a solid 5-star alternative, consider Silver Wolf’s Incessant Rain. This Light Cone enhances effect hit rate by 24%, boosts crit rate against debuffed foes, and even has a chance to inflict an Aether Code, causing affected enemies to receive 12% more damage for a turn.

4-Star Light Cones

If you’re looking for a more attainable option, Before the Tutorial Mission Starts is an excellent choice for beginners. This cone provides a 20/40% effect hit rate increase. Moreover, it grants a minor energy regeneration boost when attacking targets with reduced defense, depending on the team composition.

Eyes of the Prey serves as another great 4-star option, increasing EHR by 20% while also enhancing damage-over-time output by 24%. Given Jiaoqiu’s potential for heavy DOT application, this is an excellent fit if you have it at your disposal.

3-Star Light Cones

If you’re just getting started with Honkai Star Rail and mainly have access to 3-star Light Cones, Void is likely your best bet. It boosts effect hit rate by 20/40% but is limited to the first three turns of battle.

Ideal Relics for Jiaoqiu

When it comes to Relics, Jiaoqiu benefits from a flexible setup due to the passive nature of his abilities. Initially, community suggestions for his Relics ranged from traditional DOT setups to exceptional speed configurations that aim for more frequent actions without necessarily focusing on raw damage. Prioritize speed over other stats to maximize the number of Ashen Roast stacks he can apply.

To enhance his effectiveness, consider combining two pieces of Musketeer of Wild Wheat with two pieces of Prisoner in Deep Confinement, providing a consistent 12% attack bonus. The full Confinement set allows the wearer to ignore a portion of enemy defenses based on DOTs applied, although it may not be optimal due to Jiaoqiu’s relatively low damage multipliers.

Alternatively, Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters can enhance damage when foes are debuffed—something Jiaoqiu often facilitates—but note that a strong attack scaling is vital for his talents.

Another effective setup could include a combination of either of the previous sets and two pieces of Messenger Traversing Hackerspace, which provide a 6% speed increase. This can be crucial as Jiaoqiu’s base speed begins to climb.

The Eagle of Twilight Line set, while seemingly less beneficial at first glance due to its focus on Wind damage, allows Jiaoqiu to advance his actions by 25% following his ultimate use—an important aspect for maximizing his capability within a team.

Recommended Ornaments for Jiaoqiu

Jiaoqiu has several Ornament choices to enhance specific stats. If you’re aiming to boost his attack, consider the following:

  • Herta’s Space Sealing Station: Increases attack by 12% and another 12% when the user’s speed hits 120 or higher.
  • Firmament Frontline Glamoth: Adds 12% attack and an additional 12/18% when speed reaches 135/160.
  • Sprightly Vonwacq: Boosts energy regeneration by 5% and advances the user’s action by 40% upon entering battle if speed is 120 or higher.

Reaching Glamoth’s speed thresholds can be challenging unless you achieve favorable substat rolls. The same holds true for Sprightly Vonwacq, although it is slightly easier to meet the 120-speed requirement.

If you’re struggling to enhance Jiaoqiu’s effect hit rate, the Pan-Galactic Commercial Enterprise ornament is a viable fallback. It increases EHR by 10% and boosts attack by 25% of the user’s current EHR.

Optimal Stats for Jiaoqiu

Jiaoqiu’s bonus Trace scales his attack according to his EHR, maximizing when it reaches 140%. Focus on surpassing that benchmark before enhancing other statistics such as attack and speed based on your team’s dynamics.

  • Body: Effect hit rate or attack % if EHR is sufficient.
  • Feet: Speed.
  • Sphere: Attack %.
  • Rope: Energy regeneration.

Prioritize the same trio of stats for your Relic substats—EHR, speed, and attack.

Jiaoqiu Ascension Materials

To level Jiaoqiu from 1 to 80 in Honkai Star Rail, you’ll require the following materials:

  • 15x Immortal Scionette
  • 15x Immortal Aeroblossom
  • 15x Immortal Lumintwig
  • 65x Raging Hearts
  • 308,000x Credits

Effective Team Compositions for Jiaoqiu

Jiaoqiu’s versatile kit allows him to seamlessly integrate into various team compositions, whether your goal is to amplify damage, apply DOTs, or enhance your main DPS’ ultimate. However, he isn’t as suited for pure DOT teams compared to characters like Guinaifen or Black Swan, who can inflict multiple DOT stacks at once. Thus, consider your team’s dynamic and ability to support frequent activations of Jiaoqiu’s skills.

An effective team strategy may include:

  • Acheron
  • Jiaoqiu
  • Second Nihility character (such as Black Swan or Pela for additional defense reduction)
  • Sustain of your choice

If you can sacrifice a higher buff from Acheron by opting out of a second Nihility character, both Robin and Bronya are excellent choices. Robin can enhance overall team performance and immediately trigger Jiaoqiu’s action through her ultimate. Meanwhile, Bronya can significantly boost Jiaoqiu’s attack while allowing him to act swiftly.

Jiaoqiu can also complement a Kafka-centric team:

  • Kafka
  • Jiaoqiu
  • Another Nihility character (like Sampo or Black Swan)
  • Support of your choice

Aventurine stands out as a strong support option in this composition, as his ultimate boosts Kafka’s periodic follow-up attacks.

Ultimately, Jiaoqiu is a versatile asset, synergizing well with any character that relies heavily on their ultimate skills. Pair him with options like Yunli, Misha, or Asta, and you will create a well-rounded and powerful team.
