The Herta, commonly referred to as Madam Herta, stands as a formidable 5-Star Ice Erudition unit in Honkai: Star Rail. She embodies the Emanator of Nous, representing the Aeon of Erudition, and holds a prominent role as the founder of the Herta Space Station, being member 83 of the esteemed Genius Society. Notably, the various Herta puppets encountered throughout the station—including a playable 4-star variant—are designed based on The Herta’s younger likeness.
As an Erudition unit, The Herta shines particularly in AoE encounters while still managing to excel in single-target situations. She possesses remarkable self-buffs and damage amplifiers, such as providing an impressive 80% CRIT DMG boost to her team when paired with another Erudition unit, alongside a personal three-turn ATK buff available through her Ultimate ability. This makes The Herta an accessible choice with a lower investment requirement for building her effectively, along with multiple F2P-friendly Light Cone and teammate options.
The gameplay dynamics of The Herta revolve around accumulating Inspiration stacks while simultaneously inflicting Interpretation stacks on her enemies. By consuming an Inspiration stack, she can unleash an enhanced version of her Skill. Furthermore, her Talent and Traces allow for heightened damage on her Enhanced Skill and Ultimate as enemies stack more Interpretation debuffs. Below, you’ll find a concise guide to the best build options that leverage The Herta’s robust skillset in Honkai: Star Rail.

Top Relics for The Herta in Honkai: Star Rail
When constructing a build for The Herta, she typically benefits from the core trio of ATK, CRIT Rate, and CRIT DMG. Considering that her Enhanced Skill and, to a lesser degree, her Ultimate are the primary contributors to her damage output, enhancements to these skills will be particularly effective. Speed (SPD) can also be beneficial, but its priority will depend on her team composition and synergy.
For optimal performance, The Herta’s preferred Relic set is the Scholar Lost in Erudition. This set offers an increase of 8% in CRIT Rate and a 20% damage enhancement to her Skill and Ultimate. Additionally, it provides a bonus of 25% damage to her subsequent Skill following an Ultimate activation. Furthermore, her Ultimate, Told Ya! Magic Happens, not only generates an Inspiration stack to augment her Skill but also allows for immediate casting of the enhanced Skill.
While The Herta can also achieve commendable results with the Poet of Mourning Collapse set, this requires specific play conditions and may not be viable for most players.
For those who do not possess the Scholar Lost in Erudition set, the Hunter of Glacial Forest can serve as a practical fallback, offering a 10% Ice DMG boost and a 25% CRIT DMG increase for two turns post-Ultimate. However, farming for the Scholar set is generally more effective as it shares a Cavern of Corrosion with Sacerdos’ Relived Ordeal, which is an excellent support-centric Relic set.
Newer players or those with limited resources can utilize any combination of 2-piece sets featuring CRIT Rate, Ice DMG, or ATK% as interim solutions until stronger Relics are obtained.
For Planar Ornaments, the Izumo Gensei and Takama Divine Realm set offers exceptional synergy, providing a 12% ATK boost alongside an additional 12% CRIT Rate when partnered with allies sharing the same Path. This synergy is amplified when paired with an Erudition ally, where her Talent enhances the damage multiplier of Interpretation stacks, alongside her A4 Trace which grants all allies 80% CRIT DMG and boosts the application of Interpretation stacks by Erudition units. Notably, the advantages of this set extend to any Erudition partner as well.
An effective alternative is the Rutilant Arena set, which affords an 8% CRIT Rate boost and a 20% damage enhancement to The Herta’s Skill. Its performance closely rivals that of Izumo Gensei and Takama Divine Realm, making it a versatile option commonly used by many characters in the game.
Lastly, while Sigonia, the Unclaimed Desolation may surpass both sets solely in Pure Fiction, its limited applicability makes it a less favored choice overall, since The Herta excels in various other areas. Nonetheless, given that it can be farmed alongside Izumo Gensei and Takama Divine Realm, players might want to keep a dedicated set for Pure Fiction.
The Herta Ideal Stats |
---|
2,500-2,800 ATK (with SPD Boots) |
3,000-3,400 ATK (with ATK% Boots) |
3,600-3,900 ATK (with ATK% Boots & Sphere) |
Base SPD or 134 SPD |
80%-100% CRIT Rate (In Combat) |
180%-200%+ CRIT DMG (with A4 Trace) |
Given that The Herta’s A4 Trace provides 80% CRIT DMG in combat, it is advisable for players to equip a CRIT Rate chest to help achieve their ideal 100% CRIT Rate. Support units like Sunday or Remembrance Trailblazer can be utilized to mitigate any discrepancies in CRIT Rate effectively.
The SPD needed for The Herta can vary across different breakpoints, significantly influenced by her teammates and available Eidolons. She remains functional even at base SPD, provided she is aligned with compatible allies. For example, Jade, a prime Erudition partner, boosts The Herta’s SPD by 30 while also helping her quickly build stacks via Follow-Up Attacks.
Energy generation for The Herta from her allies—facilitated by her A2 and A4 Traces—is a set amount, immune to the adjustments provided by an Energy Regeneration Rope.
The Herta’s Eidolons augment her ability to operate without SPD boots; her E1 enables the attainment of the A2 Trace’s 42 Interpretation stack threshold with a mere 28 stacks, while E2 facilitates action advances upon using her Enhanced Skill. Moreover, E4 bestows a 12% SPD increase to all Erudition characters on her team, enabling The Herta to realistically achieve the 134 SPD breakpoint without SPD boots.
Of course, equipping SPD boots can further improve The Herta’s performance, allowing her to excel at higher SPD thresholds, such as 146 and 164.
Premier Light Cones for The Herta in Honkai: Star Rail
The standout Light Cone for The Herta is without a doubt her signature, Into the Unreachable Veil, which holds the highest base ATK among the current Erudition Light Cones. At S1, this Light Cone grants a 12% CRIT Rate boost and a substantial 60% damage increase for both her Skill and Ultimate, active for three turns post-Ultimate usage. Additionally, if her Ultimate consumes 140 or more Energy, a Skill Point is restored, thus improving the functionality of Skill Point-intensive teams.
In addition to her signature Light Cone, The Herta has several other notable options. Night on the Milky Way can perform admirably, contingent upon effectively maintaining both of its benefits. An Instant Before A Gaze is another strong 5-star option that enhances both CRIT DMG and Ultimate damage. Although The Herta cannot derive benefits from Follow-Up Attack buffs, Before Dawn and Yet Hope Is Priceless make effective stat sticks, boosting CRIT DMG, Skill damage, and Ultimate damage.
However, the effectiveness of Night on the Milky Way significantly declines in scenarios with fewer than four enemies present or if the DMG buff is not activated.
For 4-star alternatives, Today Is Another Peaceful Day and Geniuses’ Repose consistently shine as exceptional choices, particularly for free-to-play and budget-conscious players. Notably, Today Is Another Peaceful Day at S5 can outperform several non-signature 5-star Light Cones due to its reliability compared to Night on the Milky Way.
New players lacking extensive options are also well-supported by the free Erudition Light Cones—Eternal Calculus, The Day The Cosmos Fell, and The Seriousness of Breakfast—which are all competent choices for The Herta and can be farmed up to S5 over time.
