With the full release of Hades 2 v1.0, many players who’ve held off during its early access period are now eager to explore Supergiant’s latest offering. Following my extensive gameplay experience, defeating Chronos and reaching the heights of Olympus, I’ve gathered some key insights worth sharing.
One question particularly stands out for fans who loved the original Hades: just how effective are the weapons in this sequel, and which ones reign supreme? In this tier guide, I’ll detail the standout weapons in Hades 2, their strengths and weaknesses, and discuss why they may or may not make the perfect addition to your arsenal as you navigate the Underworld or ascend toward Mount Olympus.
Hades 2 Weapons Tier Guide
S-Tier: The Sister Blades, Lim and Oros

At the pinnacle of Hades 2, the Sister Blades stand out as the ultimate weapon choice. With their swift attack rates and remarkable versatility, Lim and Oros are unmatched among the Nocturnal arms available to Melinoë. These blades don’t rely heavily on specific boons, allowing players to easily adapt their builds while utilizing them.
The Special attack provides the ability to afflict multiple enemies with various curses rapidly, granting a significant tactical advantage. Although players can unlock additional aspects for the blades, Melinoë’s base aspect is so formidable that it often makes further investment unnecessary.
A-Tier: The Witch’s Staff, The Black Coat, and The Moonstone Axe
The A-tier features half of the Nocturnal Arms, each a step above the rest but not quite on the same level as the Sister Blades. Let’s take a closer look:
- The Witch’s Staff, Descura
The Witch’s Staff in Hades 2 The Witch’s Staff is your initial weapon choice, reminiscent of the starting sword from the first game. This staff excels in charged attacks, making it a reliable option. Ensuring your mana bar is sufficiently leveled up is crucial for optimal performance, and enhancing it with Arcana cards like The Unseen can further amplify its potential, establishing it as a strong contender.
- The Moonstone Axe, Zorephet
The Moonstone Axe in Hades 2 Although the Moonstone Axe may have a slower attack speed, its damage output remains substantial. The Aspect of Thanatos notably enhances its efficiency, balancing speed with power. Even without this aspect, its ability to deliver significant damage in single strikes makes it a formidable choice, particularly with a Special that handles multiple foes simultaneously.
- The Black Coat, Xinth
The Black Coat in Hades 2 Despite being the last weapon you unlock, the Black Coat boasts incredible power and versatility. It allows players to launch missiles and engage enemies effectively. While its unique sprint mechanics may require some adaptation, its rapid main attacks and multi-hit Special make it a strong weapon that also accommodates various build strategies.
B-Tier: Umbral Flames, Ygnium

The Umbral Flames can be a challenging weapon to master, similar to the Witch’s Staff. Effective usage relies on a well-managed mana bar and strategic Arcana cards. These flames maintain a safe distance from enemies while dealing consistent damage, with the Eos aspect adding explosive potential. This tier reflects capabilities that require practice to grasp effectively.
C-Tier: Argent Skull

The Argent Skull presents perhaps the most contentious positioning in this guide. While it possesses the potential for great power with the right upgrades, it’s often considered less reliable. It requires players to maneuver skillfully to maintain ammo, which can become risky in intense encounters. Although it can lead to victories, its dependency on upgrades puts it solidly in C-tier.
Ultimately, these rankings are subjective and based on my personal experiences. Your playstyle may dictate different preferences, so be sure to experiment with all weapon types to discover your ideal strategies.
