Drawing inspiration from acclaimed titles like Journey and Abzu, Sword Of The Sea surprises players with an unexpected final boss fight. While it may not feature multiple bosses, the climactic encounter promises a thrilling challenge that stands out in this relaxing adventure.
Among the features of this battle is the highly coveted Untouchable Trophy, which requires players to navigate the final conflict without sustaining any damage. However, achieving this feat is far from straightforward. Though there’s no conventional fail state, mastering the dodging mechanics and surviving the encounter with Tornamun, the colossal flying serpent, can be a demanding task.
Phase One: The Tower Climb

The battle kicks off as players surf up the imposing tower that has loomed in the distance throughout the game. During this initial phase, the atmosphere is vividly orange, and with no imminent threats, players can take the time to acclimate to the environment. Utilizing boost patches is optional, yet it can add fun to the experience—just focus on getting a feel for your movements.

Once the tower crumbles, players must skillfully navigate through the debris using charged jumps, making sure to employ the double jump feature for extra safety. If you find yourself dodging Tornamun’s looming rocks, staying in motion is essential—maintaining movement increases your reaction time significantly. A momentary halt could lead to absorption of damage from incoming projectiles.
Towards the end of this phase, there’s a halfpipe enriched with boosters followed by a serene section adorned with floating fish. Relish this calmer segment to recharge before diving into the next challenge.
Phase Two: In the Clouds

As if transported into a whimsical realm, players find themselves surfing a halfpipe crafted from clouds. Two vital elements emerge in this stage: swirling fish patches located along both edges of the halfpipe, which can be surfed into to acquire charge attacks. Hitting the charge prompt (Square on PS5, E on PC) unleashes attacks that will invariably hit Tornamun.
Employing this attack mechanism is critical for progressing in the fight, with regular assaults required throughout. The initial attack in this phase involves Tornamun launching a fire beam, which stands as one of the trickiest moves to dodge. Instead of jumping out of the halfpipe, pivoting back and forth over the beam while remaining inside it proves more effective.

Tornamun will also unleash a wave of fire that spans the entire halfpipe, necessitating an exit to dodge the flames. Utilize your double jump to effortlessly evade this hazard. The phase culminates in a meteor shower where players must focus on the ground indicators to avoid the incoming strikes. Unlike in the earlier phase, constant movement isn’t always effective here; adopting a strategic stationary approach allows better dodging of the meteors.
Phase Three: In the Whirlpool
The battle takes a dramatic turn as players enter a swirling whirlpool arena. Here, it’s imperative to continue gathering charge for your attacks while using the architecture of the whirlpool to navigate safely.
The fire beam returns, yet dodging it is simpler within this structure. Keep moving in circles to avoid taking damage. After sufficient assaults, you’ll summon your dolphin companion, who will then engage in a mini-game of tennis with a massive energy orb. Players can mash the button prompt recklessly to ensure they deal damage, eliminating the need for precise timing.
Following a series of volleys, players will stun Tornamun and automatically ascend for a critical strike. The boss retaliates with patches of fire traveling through the whirlpool; players will need to find gaps in the long strips of fire to evade damage. Always remember to remain vigilant and ready to jump over shorter patches of fire.

Upon inflicting more damage, summoning another ally—this time a shark—will initiate yet another volley sequence similar to the dolphin’s. By continuing to mash the button prompts, players streamline the process to inflict damage upon the mighty boss.
As the thrilling encounter draws to a close, land the final blows by repeatedly pressing the attack button. Completing this exhilarating showdown rewards players with the satisfaction of triumphing in Sword Of The Sea. If players miss the opportunity to complete the boss fight hitless on the first go, don’t worry! A Chapter Select feature unlocks upon game completion, allowing you to revisit the Sky Abyss for another shot at mastering this exciting encounter without taking any damage.
