Boxing Cutman ‘Stitch’ Duran Criticizes Handling of Tim Tszyu’s Head Injury
According to Jacob ‘Stitch’ Duran, an experienced cutman with many years in the field, the handling of Tim Tszyu’s head injury in the recent championship bout was inadequate.
Despite suffering a severe injury to his head from an accidental elbow by Sebastian Fundora, Tszyu continued to fight while bleeding profusely. The fans were shocked when the fight was not stopped as a no-contest or declared a disqualification. Despite ultimately losing the fight by split decision, Tszyu displayed grace and sportsmanship in defeat.
Commenting on the issue, Duran stated:
“Unfortunately, the big vein that we have [in the forehead] – if you pop it, you’re not gonna stop [the bleeding]. He got the cut in the same vein. It is important to have a good corner with you because they should’ve stopped it before the start of the fifth round. It would’ve been a no-contest. They would’ve had a chance for a rematch.”
In addition, he stated:
“I felt bad that all the techniques that were being used on him were not the proper techniques of how to handle a cut.”
Dana White’s Contract Dispute with Georges St-Pierre Prevented Boxing Debut
Despite having an offer to box Oscar De La Hoya in 2021, Georges St-Pierre was unable to follow through with the plan due to interference from Dana White.
During an interview on the Pound 4 Pound podcast, St-Pierre shared that the UFC CEO’s infamous feud with De La Hoya was the reason the deal fell through. In addition, St-Pierre’s existing contract with the UFC played a factor in the fight not being able to happen.
According to St-Pierre:
“It didn’t happen because Dana White told me no. Dana White hates Oscar De La Hoya… I still had ties with UFC and Dana.”
According to St-Pierre, White went on a profanity-laced tirade when De La Hoya’s name was brought up.
In addition, he stated:
“And then he [White] called me after, he said he wanted me to fight Khabib, but Khaib already retired and I already retired so…”
