Ubisoft Enhances Steam Integration with New Achievements
Ubisoft is making significant strides in fully integrating its games into Steam, a platform where it has long published titles, albeit with interruptions and varying features. Recently, the trend has shifted, showing a marked progress toward enhancing user experience across its game lineup.
Recent Additions of Steam Achievements
In a notable update, Ubisoft introduced Steam achievement support for two iconic titles from the Assassin’s Creed franchise: Unity and Black Flag. This update comes a decade after their initial release, marking a substantial change in Ubisoft’s approach to game support on Steam. Following this momentum, the company has turned its attention to the beloved Ghost Recon series.
The two latest entries to receive this sought-after feature are:
Upon their release, these games were pivotal in transitioning the classic Ghost Recon series into an expansive open-world format. Now, players can enjoy a comprehensive achievement system that was previously limited to games purchased through Ubisoft Connect.
A Comprehensive Achievement List
Ghost Recon Wildlands boasts a total of 57 achievements, which include its downloadable content (DLC), while Ghost Recon Breakpoint features 50 achievements for its campaign mode. This enhancement allows players to engage with the game on a deeper level, offering goals beyond just gameplay completion.
Seamless Integration for Existing Players
Interestingly, the update regarding Steam achievements for these titles was not initially publicized by Ubisoft, similar to the Assassin’s Creed updates. However, the changes can be tracked through SteamDB update histories, as well as the respective Steam store pages of each game. Players who have previously spent time in these games will find that their achievements unlock automatically upon launching the Steam version.
Future Prospects for Ubisoft’s Steam Strategy
While significant strides have been made with both Assassin’s Creed and Ghost Recon, Ubisoft still has several notable franchises on Steam without achievement support. Titles such as Far Cry, Watch Dogs, and additional entries in the Tom Clancy series remain unupdated. This raises anticipation about whether Ubisoft will maintain this trend of enhancing their classic titles as they continue to launch new games.
As fans await further developments, it’s clear that Ubisoft is committed to improving its presence on Steam, and players can look forward to what the future holds in terms of game support and features.
