Ubisoft Skips Annual Forward Event for 2025
This year marks a significant departure for Ubisoft as the company announces it will not hold its annual Ubisoft Forward event, a highlight of the gaming calendar since its inception in 2020. This decision raises questions about the state of the company and its future plans.
Upcoming Appearances at Other Events
While the Ubisoft Forward event won’t take place, the gaming giant is set to make appearances at other major events later this summer, including Gamescom 2025.
Ubisoft Forward, which has been a digital and in-person showcase for the company’s games just about every June, isn’t happening this year. A company rep tells me Ubisoft will participate in IGN Live (June 7-8) and PC Gaming Show (June 8) and will also be at GamesCom.

Challenges Facing Ubisoft
Despite the confirmed appearances, Ubisoft’s decision to skip the Forward event isn’t unexpected. The company is undergoing a substantial internal transformation, particularly in light of its deal with Tencent. This restructuring has led to speculation about potential layoffs within the company.
Many of Ubisoft’s popular franchises are currently missing from the spotlight, caught in what appears to be a prolonged development limbo. Compounding these issues, several former executives of the company are facing serious allegations, including a trial for alleged sexual harassment.
The Current State of Ubisoft
While Assassin’s Creed Shadows has recently enjoyed commercial success, it’s a lone bright spot amid an otherwise difficult year as Ubisoft seeks to recover from significant losses in 2024. Furthermore, the company recently announced the permanent shutdown of its multiplayer shooter, XDefiant, which adds to the growing concerns regarding its portfolio.
As Ubisoft prepares for its upcoming events, the gaming community is keen to see what announcements will be made. Given the turbulent circumstances, it is understandable why CEO Yves Guillemot has opted not to take the stage this year to discuss the company’s immediate and long-term future.
