Two Years After Launch, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Adds Steam Achievements
In light of recent struggles with disappointing game sales, Ubisoft appears to be fully embracing Steam once again. In a noteworthy development, the Steam edition of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has finally introduced achievements—an element that has been conspicuously absent since its original release.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla signified Ubisoft’s return to the Steam platform in 2022. Originally, the company withdrew from Steam in 2019 to prioritize its own Ubisoft Connect (formerly known as Uplay) and the Epic Games Store. Over time, it began to release older titles on Steam, but these releases often lacked certain features, such as the integrated Steam Achievements.
Back in 2022, Ubisoft dismissed player requests to add Steam Achievements for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. However, it appears the company’s stance has shifted. The addition of achievements was first noticed by fans on SteamDB, which reported the feature update on October 7 as it was being implemented into the game’s live environment.
Since 2020, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has been the last installment in the franchise’s open-world RPG series. Although 2024 was expected to see the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, further delays have moved the title’s debut to 2025. Nonetheless, fans can anticipate an exciting new co-op mode featuring the game’s two protagonists according to recent reports.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will also signify the conclusion of Ubisoft’s exclusive release periods for PC platforms. The studio has confirmed that upcoming titles will launch on Steam from day one. Additionally, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to debut on Steam later this month, followed by the new Star Wars title, Outlaws, which is scheduled for release on Steam in November.
