Recent benchmarks on Geekbench have once again demonstrated the capabilities of AMD’s latest X3D processor, underscoring its remarkable single-core and multi-core performance.
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2: A Leap Forward in Performance
The anticipated flagship Zen 5 CPU, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, has made its second benchmark appearance on Geekbench, showcasing its competitive edge over other high-end processors. While AMD has yet to officially launch the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, initial results provide insight into its performance capabilities in comparison to its predecessor which features a single 3D V-Cache chiplet.
According to a post by @9550pro, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 attained significantly improved scores while being tested on the GIGABYTE X870 AORUS Tachyon ICE motherboard. This time, it achieved an impressive 3, 553 in single-core performance and a remarkable 24, 340 in multi-core tests, reflecting an approximate increase of 7% compared to the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

This processor maintains the same 16-core/32-thread architecture as its predecessor, but both Core Die Chiplets (CCDs) now feature a 3D V-Cache chiplet underneath the cores. This enhancement results in a colossal 192 MB of L3 cache (96 MB each), a first for any CPU. Clock speeds appear to remain on par with previous models, with the 9950X3D2 boasting a maximum boost clock of up to 5.6 GHz. Although there are no alterations in clock speeds compared to the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, the addition of an extra cache chiplet is expected to enhance performance in select applications and gaming scenarios.
While the exact impact of the additional L3 cache on gaming performance is still uncertain, early indications from synthetic benchmarks strongly suggest a performance advantage. These findings are supported by previous PassMark results, which tend to provide a more reliable performance assessment than Geekbench results.
