While gamers may feel let down by AMD’s current lack of support, there’s good news on the horizon! The Optiscaler development team has stepped up, delivering innovative solutions for gamers in need.
Optiscaler Version 0.9.0-Pre10 Introduces FSR 4 Support for Vulkan Games
AMD appears to be dragging its feet in the rollout of its FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.0 (FSR 4) technology. Currently, support is limited to its latest RDNA 4 graphics cards and DirectX 12 games. Despite nearly a year having passed since FSR 4’s initial announcement, AMD has yet to extend its availability to Vulkan titles.
Fortunately, thanks to dedicated contributors to Optiscaler, a new test build now brings FSR 4 compatibility to Vulkan games. A recent observation by Reddit user u/eduhfx reveals that the Optiscaler Version 0.9.0-pre10 update includes significant advancements for Vulkan users:
Added Vulkan w/Dx12 support – FSR4 VK w/Dx12, FSR 2.1 VK w/Dx12

With this update, players of contemporary Vulkan games such as Doom: The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle can now experience enhanced visuals through FSR 4 technology. While AMD has attempted to enable FSR 4 in games supporting FSR 3.1 via new driver updates, Vulkan titles have inexplicably remained excluded. Thanks to Optiscaler’s innovative solution, users can enable FSR 4 by swapping out FSR 3.1, a feature that would not be feasible without this third-party tool.
It raises questions why AMD seems hesistant to broaden FSR 4’s reach to more games and hardware. The advancements in FSR 4 significantly surpass its predecessors, offering better quality even in its Performance mode compared to the Quality preset of FSR 3.1. With some adjustments, players have even found ways to enable FSR 4 on older GPU models from the RX 6000 and RX 7000 series, which only require the INT8 version of the upscaler for official support.
