OnePlus appears to be in damage control mode following reports that its latest smartphone is suffering from thermal issues. These concerns primarily stem from the notoriously power-hungry Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, prompting the company to request the removal of critical posts from social media platforms.
Debayan Roy Removes His X Post About OnePlus 15 Overheating

Earlier today, tech reviewer Debayan Roy shared a post on X, detailing his experience with the OnePlus 15. He reported that while recording video in 4K resolution and at 60fps outdoors, the device’s temperature skyrocketed to 50 degrees Celsius after just five minutes, forcing the camera to shut down temporarily.
Interestingly, Roy noted that the OnePlus 15 performed well under normal indoor conditions and managed everyday tasks with ease. It was under the strain of intense 4K video recording that the phone exhibited concerning behavior.
I have no intention to harm any brand…Any device has both good & bad and I was sharing both good & bad! But since they like only good things, So NO MORE TWEET regarding review of THAT PHONE Planned a detailed🔋& 📸 review of that phone but those aren’t coming anymore!

Subsequently, OnePlus compelled Roy to retract his tweet, exacerbating the speculation surrounding the phone’s performance. The company’s insistence on silencing criticism raises eyebrows, as it seems to only want to highlight positive aspects while ignoring significant overheating issues.
In our recent analysis, we identified that the OnePlus 15 struggles with overheating during demanding tasks, such as running 3DMark Wild Life Extreme. This is particularly concerning considering the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’s high power consumption, which can reach up to an astonishing 22W under stress—comparable to the power intake of Ultrabook-class processors.
To put this into perspective, a gaming laptop with an Intel Core i9-14900HX typically consumes around 15W at idle, not to mention utilizing a robust cooling system capable of maintaining temperatures below 62 degrees Celsius. Such laptops are designed with dedicated cooling fans operating at high RPMs to manage heat effectively.
While the OnePlus 15 features an expanded vapor chamber that reportedly doubles heat dissipation, its performance falters under stress. In most scenarios, the phone operates as expected, but strenuous applications can lead to overheating issues.
Given this recent controversy, OnePlus may need to reconsider its public relations strategies. Typically, a well-managed PR department should handle such situations with finesse rather than suppression, as ignoring the problem can lead to further public speculation and dissatisfaction.
