Next Year, All Apple iPad Models Will Feature OLED Displays Except for the Base Model

Apple is set to upgrade the iPad Air with an OLED display, aiming for a release in 2027. This upgrade will align the iPad Air’s specifications with those of the broader iPad line, apart from the entry-level iPad, which will continue to utilize an LCD screen for the time being.

Anticipated Launch of OLED iPad Air in 2027

As reported by ETNews, the transition to an OLED display for the iPad Air is expected to begin with the mass production of these new panels. Samsung Display is projected to commence production by late 2026, with the launch window estimated between March and May of 2027.

With this move, Apple aims to standardize the OLED technology across nearly its entire iPad lineup. Notably, only the base iPad will remain with an LCD display for the foreseeable future.

It’s important to note that the previous introduction of OLED screens on the iPad Pro saw a decrease in consumer demand after a price increase. To address this potential issue with the iPad Air, Apple is planning to adopt a more cost-effective approach. The new OLED panel will feature a simplified design, employing a single-stack emissive layer, low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistors (TFT), and a hybrid substrate. This optimized structure is intended to mitigate any dramatic price hikes associated with the new model.

In a related development, Apple has already incorporated OLED technology into the iPad Pro and has plans to expand this feature to the 8.5-inch iPad mini and the MacBook Pro models (both 14-inch and 16-inch) later this year.
