As the year draws to a close, Spotify’s Wrapped feature offers a delightful recap for music enthusiasts, showcasing fun statistics about their listening habits. However, for those curious about more in-depth insights throughout the year, utilizing a third-party tool becomes essential for accessing advanced Spotify statistics.
Enhancing Spotify Stats with Stats.fm
Historically, users had to patiently wait for the annual Wrapped to obtain comprehensive insights into their Spotify listening patterns. Recently, Spotify rolled out a feature called Listening Stats, allowing users to check their stats more frequently. You can access this by tapping your profile icon in the app and selecting Listening stats.

Unfortunately, this feature only provides a one-month snapshot at a time, summarizing users’ top artist, song, and playlist for each week. Tapping on any specific song or artist reveals the top five tracks for the week.
While these insights are beneficial, many users yearn for additional details. This is where Stats.fm proves invaluable. Unlike Spotify’s Wrapped, Stats.fm offers access to your top 50 artists and songs over the past year, even in its free version.
Comprehensive Lifetime Listening Stats with Stats.fm
Stats.fm comes in two versions: a free variant and a Plus subscription. The free plan allows for tracking up to 50 songs and artists, as well as one year of listening history, all pulled directly from your Spotify account. Users can also connect with friends, share seasonal and monthly Wrapped-style cards displaying their top songs and artists.
The Plus subscription offers an expanded array of Spotify stats, which includes:
- Top 100 artists, songs, and albums
- Import of comprehensive listening history
- Play counts for individual tracks
- Listening clocks to see when you play each track
- Customizable time frames for statistical analysis
- Ad-free experience (though ads are quite minimal)
At just $6.50 per year, the Plus subscription is a worthwhile investment for avid listeners. Alternatively, opting for the lifetime plan at approximately $15 can be even more economical, especially if there are promotional offers available (I found access for just $9.50 recently).

Accessing Stats.fm is user-friendly; it’s available on iOS, Android, and through web browsers, making it compatible across multiple devices.
Seamless Connection with Spotify
Upon launching Stats.fm for the first time, users are prompted to log in using either their Spotify or Apple Music account. Yes, Stats.fm is compatible with Apple Music as well. To access Spotify stats, simply log in using your Spotify account.

Users will need to agree to a list of permissions that allows Stats.fm to import their listening history. While this may seem lengthy, granting permissions is crucial for the app’s functionality.

Should you decide to revoke access, you can easily do so through the Spotify website. Simply navigate to your account, select Manage Apps, and click on Remove access next to Spotistats for Spotify (the former name for Stats.fm).
Deep Dive into Your Spotify Stats
Free users can view details such as their most recently played track and several recap cards showcasing their top artists, tracks, and genres over the last four weeks. Premium users enjoy additional features, including a Streaming History section that provides more extensive statistics.
Personally, the free version meets my needs perfectly. Although I have experimented with the Plus version, I find the basic monthly and yearly overviews satisfying. However, those desiring a comprehensive breakdown will find the lifetime plan of Stats.fm to be excellent value.
To view your top tracks, artists, albums, and genres over different time frames (four weeks, six months, or one year), simply tap the Top button. Digging deeper into specifics is easy—tapping on any track or artist unveils further details. Plus users additionally benefit from listening clocks that indicate how frequently and at what times they listen.
By selecting the Stats button, which features a bar chart, users can explore their top genres and overall listening history in greater detail (more comprehensive for Plus members).

Stats get updated in real-time as you use Spotify, encouraging regular check-ins. You can also share Wrapped-style cards with friends to showcase your monthly or seasonal listening habits, which is a fun way to customize your interaction with music.

Utilizing the Story feature, Stats.fm allows users to create Instagram stories featuring their stats. For those who do not use Stats.fm, Spotify offers receipts to share listening histories.
Building Connections and Discovering New Music
One of the standout features of Stats.fm, in my opinion, lies not in the statistics themselves, but in the way it connects users with potential musical “soulmates”—not through dating, but through shared musical tastes.
By tapping the Discovery/Friends button, users can invite friends, create a Compare link for social media sharing, or simply explore others’ profiles. After a few moments, Stats.fm provides suggestions for profiles based on musical compatibility.

By clicking on a profile, you can view their stats, send friend requests, and even chat. Each suggested profile displays the top artists that you have in common, enabling easy exploration of their listening habits and potential new music discoveries.
For music lovers keen on advanced statistics, I recommend considering Stats.fm Plus for a year. However, if you prefer a simple solution for regularly updated, fundamental stats that surpass what Spotify offers, the free version is quite adequate.
If you’re looking for alternatives to Spotify, various streaming services can provide refreshing options, or you can enjoy free streaming on multiple platforms.
